Interior retrim - Hethel cost?

Postby Philbo » Wed 01.11.2006, 17:34

Hi chaps

Now that it looks like my engine odyssey is nearly over, I'm thinking about the interior. When I got the car I deliberately chose a half-hide option with Norfolk Mustard carpets (LRG body so it made some sort of sense I suppose).

Fifteen years on and it may be time for a change. Does anyone know if Hethel can re-trim half-hide seats with leather? And can they retrim ALL of the carpet areas in the driver compartment (I'm thinking something more subtle for the seats & carpets like a dark grey).

Finally anyone got any idea of the sort of cost for this kind of thing?

Cheers

Philbo, i have had 2 elans retrimmed now, & blacky was done this yr at lotus. I had seats retrimmed ( full leather ), both gaitors, & top, middle & bottom pieces done in leather on the doorcards, total cost was £1100. The best thing to do is contact Mel Broome at mbroome@lotuscars.co.uk & arrange an appointment, so you can go down & discuss your requirements with the trim ladies in person. This is important, cause if you go through a dealer you might not get what you want ( i didn't 1st time ! ), & also Mel will give you a cost. As for the carpets, i don't know, but i would be interested to see if they do them, please let me know ?
Oh, & by the way, because lotus have the actuall moulds to cut the leather correctly for the seats, they look a lot better than your average retrimmer !

...and Philbo, they only do the rear wall and pocket in grey these days.

Please save your yellow bits - I need them desperately.

Thanks chaps. May give Lotus a call. Sy - the refit isn't imminent, but if it happens I will ensure that any bits are kept. It's in generally good nick but some bits aren't exactly pristine...yellow carpets & dirty shoes a good mix they are not. Looks like it's lucky I'm thinking of grey!

I've been seriously out of the loop in the Elan world the last few years - how are your projects going Sy?

The time has come for my interior to be replaced. With regard to the seats (full leather) and the door side panels, does anyone know how many hides I will need to buy? I am anticipating doing the WHOLE door panel and centre console in leather too so if anyone has done that I would appreciate guidance on how much extra to buy. I'll tackle the carpets later.
I have happened upon an ex-Aston Martin upholsterer to do the job for me.....and she just happens to work for me too!
many thanks
