Ash Tray housing removal help needed

Postby oneills » Tue 23.11.2021, 20:13

Hello All

Would anyone know if there is a knack to removing the ash tray housing without breaking it.

I cant see anything in the manual

I could try and prize it out but I am afraid it may crack but if that is the way then I will have to be careful

Thanks in advance

Hi Shaun,

I removed mine many years ago to fit a satnav unit in the space.

It is "just" glued to the rear of the fascia panel - but the glue was pretty solid. I wasn't keeping mine, so the fact that it cracked and broke wasn't a great worry to me - but I didn't want to damage the fascia, so took some care.

I ended up cutting it and getting a slim chisel between the lip on the housing and the fascia, then gently easing the two apart.

Without damaging the housing, I would suggest that the best way would be to undo the fascia fixings and then get a suitable tool behind and ease the two parts away from each other. Once it starts to separate, it is very simple to complete the job.

Just the one now, but this one's mine! - and it will be finished eventually.....

Somewhere in LEC, there's a note about this. I've tried to find it

IIRC it involved heating the tray with a hair dryer to soften the gunk that holds it in.
