door card trim

Postby stinkerstag » Fri 21.07.2006, 19:04

I have removed the door card & trim from NS door to replace a faulty door mirror and am having trouble securing the leatherette panels to the door card. The previous owner fitted them with sikkaflex or something similar, cos i had to stanley knife the panels off to get to the fixing screws. Does anyone have any ideas on how to secure the panels back on without resorting back to using sikkaflex. The panels have been re-trimmed and are not smooth on the backs. Thanks, Steve.

If you clean both the back and the application surface a small amount of silicone sealant or rubber cement will do the job and allow for easier removal next time.

I tend towards the silicone sealant as you can peel it off without any fuss next time around, and it has worked for me on both doors with various mirror, speaker, and lock mechanism fixes.

Good luck,

Double Sided Tape or self adhesive velcro

Hi

You could try both of these available from Halfords.

You need a clean smooth surface though for parts to STICK.

if you go the silicone route use the local DIY Store...

£1.95 for 330ml or halfrauds £3.99 for 50ml

Silicone holds mine on no problem, I had more trouble getting the carpet to stick even using contact spray adhesive.

I stuck my door carpets back on with carpet tape from the local DIY store - it worked a treat.

Put mine back on with strategic Velcro pads and they haven't moved - yet! Also used double sided carpet tape for the carpet and it seems OK.
