AutoEurope Rollbar

Postby RFly2Dive » Mon 16.07.2007, 17:26

Does anyone know if the rollbar installed by AutoEurope in Michigan would be considered an 'aftermarket alteration' of my Elan if it was installed by the original owner at the time of purchase? I have someone that bought my Elan on eBay stating that since this aftermarket alteration was not disclosed to him that he should be able to purchase the car for $2000.00 less than the price he bid. He thinks this even though I had mentioned in my ad this website and that my car was in the 'For Sale-US' section as the silver 1991. The pictures there of the car show the roll bar if he looked at them.

I would say it's aftermarket

But if there is pictures of it, then he should have looked at what he was buying!!!

It is an aftermarket modification but why he should want money knocking off I don't know??? :?
If you can, remove it (unless he's already collected it). Can the car be returned back to stock by removing it without leaving any damage?

This falls into the category of what's often referred to as a "dealer-installed option". I agree with other posts: this is a person who's trying to use ethically questionable tactics to purchase what seems to be a very nice car overall.

This is why I truly hate the thought of using eBay to sell an exotic car like the Elan. I've often wondered if a well-crafted advert in Autoweek or the Robb Report, backed by a web site with details, wouldn't find a better class of customer.

Further, as long as the ad clearly stated the rollbar was dealer-installed at time of purchase and it was clearly visible in the photos, I don't think he has a leg to stand on in any dispute through eBay and is placing himself in jeopardy of negative feedback *shudder*.

Thanks .....
For your insight and coments. You are the best forum I am involved with..., I am just a Physician who bought this car for 14,ooo.oo put another 7000.00 into it have all the invoices and would like to sell it for 13,500.00 ...... Sometimes a good deal is confusing,,,,.. I have one other Floridian interested in the car and he is to look at it tomorrow. I sometimes think when something is listed like my car everyone shies away. But I do have the invoices and need to sell it due to a divorce. Somebody will thank me....

Tigerdog..... Interesting insight...and commentary...actually I ended up with the negative back...I have bought and sold Rolex's I have bought 2 vehicles, sold gold coins, and probably bought over 100K of stuff on eBay. It is the only negative feedback I have ever received. I suggest everyone go to my listing while it is available and see if I did anything that was irresponsible or inaccuarate. I will await your judgement.

OH.... By the way... I got the 3K bill from White's....So I will not sell the car for less than 13.5K...........The belts were done, the clutch was replaced the rear seal was done and CV joints......So on some level I am glad he did not follow through .... Buit he IS a dead beat bidder.

I just have the following observations:

1. Looks to me like your pictures went up after the guy placed his bid
2. A standard "clause" on a lot of ebay listings is bids only received from buyers with minimum x feedback rating -or- anyone with less than x feedback rating should contact before bidding
3. The feedback already on his account would have had me killing his bid fast.
4. If you won't sell for less then 13.5k, why run a no reserve auction?

Just my 2p, don't think there is anything you particularly did wrong, but there are things that could be done better.

I agree with Ailwyn about the pictures being added after his bid, which didn't help. You can just make the bar out in the first 2 pictures, but only just.

If he had used the LEC info he would have seen the bars, a proper link to your topic would have helped.

You don't mention the rollbar at all in the e-bay advert.

I must say, I don't like the AutoEurope rollbar at all, as it is bulky and seems to ruin the lines of the car from your pictures. Nothing personal, it's just my opinion on them, so I'm glad I went for LGM's.

Good luck with your sale as the car does seem a very good example, maybe you could take the rollbar out and sell it?
