Heat seal embrodered badges on seats

Postby enndee » Tue 08.06.2010, 10:23

I have 2 very nicely embroidered, heat seal fix, Lotus badges that I would like to attach to the headrest area of my standard Elan seats.
They need to have the iron set on the hottest setting and heat applied for 40 to 50 seconds.I plan to use a card mask to protect the leather around the badge and a cotton cloth between the iron and the badge and mask.
Has anyone done something similar?
Is it OK to apply this level of heat to the leather?
Thanks

:agree:

if you do go ahead Id suggest trying the heat on a bit you cant see...or even better an old seat cover....
not only may it disolour the leather but more to the point burn/dry it out

why dont you take the back covers off and send them to lotus for a bit of propper stitching?.....bet they'll only charge you about £40 or £50........

and your seat covers will be safe :)

I think you'd have to take the covers off anyway. Those kind of patches require quite a bit of pressure on the iron, and against the cushion, I just don't think you would get that. If you don't have plenty of pressure, you won't get a good even seal. I'm also betting you won't really like the final result, because it won't look like it's embroidered on the leather, it will obviously be a patch. I put a small one on a polo shirt. It's ok, but it's obviously an iron-on patch. It would look 1000 times better if it were actually embroidered on the shirt.

Good luck, whatever you decide to do. I hope it works out and you're happy with the look. That's all that really matters.
