Window Upstop Bobbins & Tapping Plates

Postby CallMeLegend » Wed 19.08.2020, 22:21

Having nearly got the drivers window working properly, apart from a small judder mid stroke I've noticed I'm missing my upstop bobbins on the electric windows. Are they available anywhere please?

Check in the bottom of the door as they do fall off and roll to one end or the other but which end of the door depends on how fast you accelerate or if you have Hi-spec or AP brakes I suppose!

You've got superb brakes then!

Seriously, they may have been left out if the weather seals have been replaced as the glass is a bugger to get back in. Not sure if you can buy them anymore? I have one that needs to go back in so if someone can 3d print them I'll loan one for a batch to be printed.

3d printing......one of my areas of expertise. My 3d printed lock escutcheons are a thing to behold.

All I'll need to do then is sort the the threaded part that's bonded to the glass.

If you have the metal backplate then all you are missing is the bobbin and the screw? The bobbin has a small dowel to locate it in the window?

Window Bobbin.JPG

Nothing should be bonded to the glass, not even the plastic washer.

Part # A100B0817F. Still in the Price Book at £10.54.
Sjs also has them at £9.72

The tapping plate is also still available from any Lotus dealer as is the plastic gasket.

At those prices it's going to be cheaper to 3d print something. All I need is a drawing of the bobbin. A 3d printed tapping plate is very doable too I'm sure, the thread can be produced by bonding a nut in from the rear.

Given tb10's comment re lack of space, it may not be possible to use a nut bonded on.

Could you not use an alloy riv nut of appropriate size? eg M6 or M8?

How about female big heads then?

Or alternatively since I may be 3d printing the bobbins a rivnut bonded into an aluminium plate to act as the tapping plate, I can then make the bobbin match it

That's the problem, I don't appear to have any of it!! There's just holes in the glass

Personally, I would be looking at the female big-heads, as long as the diameter of the shank fits through the hole in the glass, the rest can be made to match.

Ahhh, I thought you 'had' the threaded part. Good old English eh: "All I'll need to do then is source the the threaded part that should be bonded to the glass."

Look on the bright side - at least you haven't also lost the two holes in the window

This "tapping plate" may be perfect.

Great legal words John.

Except it SHOULDN'T be bonded to the glass. Just the bolt into the mounting plate to retain it.

I'll sue you for misleading info. Know a good lawyer? :-D
