I've just noticed (which I'm sure most of you already know) that the center console where the window switches, mirror control and handbrake is different in the Fed Elan than the later Elans. It seems to be more angular with the window switches moved downward.
Does anyone have a pic of this console style? Anyone know if it would be backwards compatible with older models? Seems to look much better than the older style (from what limited views I've seen).

what you are talking about is the re-design in the S2 Elans -- which is also in the Kia variant--though there could be other Kia changes I don't know about. It should be able to be swapped without an issue if you can find one . . .

Hi Doug, I thought as much. There seems to be bolt holes in the body of the console and the faux tray under the handbrake. Was wondering if I "mis-saw" those and was curious to see a pic. Do they match the existing mounting points on the ed Elan?
Think I saw a center console for sale which is why I asked in the first place. Might make a nice upgrade to the interior. Be curious to hear from the Brit gang who have likely seen both and may have tried/done a replacement themselves.

I have seen & handled both, & from what ive seen the S2 console is very flimsy compared with the SE. Think they must of run out of SE ones when they built the S2 cars, & had someone make them up as cheap as possible !

Or true to the Lotus ethos of "adding lightness"?

IMO the S2 console doesn`t look as good + it doesn`t have the CD storage compartment

Not sure about it adding lightness, but I bet it added cheapness!
Apparently a few people fed back that they bumped their elbow on it.
Chris Goffey certainly complains of doing in his Top Gear review - lanky streak of p!$$!
I much prefer the SE's with it's little oddments box.

...and the handbrake apperture's offset from centre on the S2 console.
