Front damper top bushes

Postby PIT-STOP » Fri 04.07.2014, 09:44

I have a serious squeak coming from the front damper, driver side. The garage tell me that I need to replace the top bushes, which are no longer available. They say they can modify some from others, but best if I use the genuine or replacement part. Does anyone know where I can get them please? I'm guessing they are GM standard part of some sort? (apologies if it is already on this site somewhere but I have searched and can't find anything).
Thanks in hope!

Using my obsolite detective skills, as you have a btinternet email address can I asume you're looking in the UK?

Further detective work makes me believe that you are after the rubber bushes which seperate the upper spindle from the spring plate??

If those things are both correct, then I've got some lying around in the garage (I just had my AVO's re-built and they gave me new ones - nowt wrong with the old ones, though) and if you PM me your address, I'll post them to you.......... but only if you're called Steve :D

There was a kit at one time with the bushings, top and bottom washers and the top nut to fix one side: B100C6012F. It is obsolete.

Maybe a stockist like Mattey has some? I got a few sets a few years ago - they were less than $10.00 each, so it is worth looking around.

Since MOST OLD DESIGN shocks use the same type of attachment system, look at shock mounting kits at DIY stores too.

Something like this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Shock-Mounting- ... 1119745129

Yep - they're fairly standard parts - but mine are substantially less than $10

It's worth noting at this point, that depending on what shocks are fitted it may be either a metric or an imperial thread on the top spindle - the AVOs use an imperial nut (7/16" UNF), wheras others use a metric nut

But you only have a few available. :D

The reply was more for the next guy that searches the forum. Just trying to give real world options.

The style used by Lotus was fairly common back in the '70s and '80s but went out of style when macpherson struts became common.

SJS shows the earlier Lotus part number at something like £575.00 but that is how Lotus used to designate parts as obsolete.

But the clue is that AVO can (and do) supply these bushes and washers all the time - they are the same as the bag of Triumph stuff I have in the garage - as you said - a 'Standard' part! (see what I did there??)

It would be too obvious to be 'spitting fire' at this point, so I'll desist....

...it'd only herald the flying of a new pennant of poor 'jokes'.....

....amd their would be no acclaim in that!
