As for South West Lotus - I have a long and bitter memory of being charged £187 for 2 top ball joints, nearly double the advertised price, which was put up while I was on the phone - I call that being rogered!

If you'd like, i have a set of non-refurbished but good working calipers in my Garage for a friendly price.
Also Peter Demaret (Belgium) might have the other parts that you want, all for a LEC friendly price as well.

Wayne I have a used caliper and two discs you can have the discs have only done about 100 miles when I fitted the hi spec kit but the caliper was fitted to the car when I got it but was working OK when removed, if they are any good to you and you are sure you are going on Sunday I will put them in the boot let my know if you want them.

i agree that it does appear that SWL rogered you if the price went up whilst you were on the phone, I can only report my own experiences, which were positive

It also appears that certain things have been taken out of context (and that the context was possibly compromised by the 'written word' as opposed to 'spoken meaning' to start with).

I think we can all agree that it is better to fit new than SH (if the economics work out right)...

... that some (unknown or worn/failed) parts should NOT be risked...

.... and some parts would be okay - once their safety integrity has been checked and proven.

Either way, lets now try to keep this thread 'on track' and get Wayne back on the road

There is a good chance that the reason that Bracket broke is because the caliper bolts were loose

I think you're right, as the bottom one was still present in the caliper (albeit bent) and there was no sign of the top one.

Why would anyone want to put USED parts on a suspension?

I have a general rule to buy safety related parts (brake components, tyres and seat belts, for example) new from a reputable source, reducing the likelihood of buying counterfeit or damaged parts. I think that most parts for the Elan are pretty cheap new (compared with my Volvo), so long as they are available.
