On the front calipers, the 10 mm diameter banjo bolt possesses tiny internal drillings. The bolt's longitudinal drilling is 2.5 mm and the single lateral drilling is even smaller at 1.9 mm. Most of the brake systems I have worked on have double lateral drillings on the banjo bolt. Since the single drilling is so small . . . is it not possible this restriction limits the rate of fluid flow to the caliper piston? Moreover (as these cars are over 30 years old), rubber dust -I assume from master cylinder seal wear- accumulates in the banjo bolt drillings. Mine were about 25% blocked by this fine black dust.
What I plan on doing is machining the central bore to 3.5 mm diameter and drilling through the lateral hole (to make two holes) of 2.2 mm diameter. This will at least partially relieve the flow restriction at the banjo bolt. The bolt is 10 mm in diameter so I do not suspect this will weaken it to point of snapping. But that is the risk of modding this piece.
I just want to note that diesel Ford truck owners are doing similar modifications to their fuel rail banjo bolt. After enlarging the bore and increasing the lateral drilling number, some owners have reported a 0.4 second improvement on a 1/4 mile drag run through this mod alone.
