Rhythmic rumble - not bearing not wheels

Going through the simple stuff first I had the front wheels balanced and trued just to make sure. Rumble still comes up from the steering wheel, regular, rotational, and speed related. Car brakes well in a straight line, no rotation crunch to indicate a bearing, no wheel wobble when tested on a lift.

I will eventually have to get new disks and pads so that will be my next port of call, I feel no inherent need to upgrade these so will be sticking to originals. Probably have the calipers refurbished but that is it. The pedal is way too soft for my liking but in the spirit of originality unless there is a way to add a bit more feel I cannot justify £1,000 on upgrading the brakes. Also want to stick to the original wheels, unless there are better versions. Did the caliper come from an Astra GTE as well?

Question really is, what could be producing that sound? On the ramp there appeared to be no issues.

cv joints comes to mind. but they are a rare point of failure

but most likely i would go for a brake refurbishment if its been more than 5 years since the last one (i never had mine not need attention for more than 3)
sometimes all you need to do is take the whole thing apart and clean up. put new grease and its all good.

Agreed, CV joints are usually accompanied by a change in noise under braking, which I am not getting. Do you know what car the calipers originally came from?

It would be worth checking the intermediate bearing on the jackshaft as that can create a bit of a rumble.

It would also be worth considering the front brake upgrade that Jamie N can offer, a modern simple solution that is a lot less than £1000.

Bizarre, when I try and PM Jamie it tells me the user doesn't exist!

If it is those bearings then hopefully, they will get worse with time and become more obvious, think I will drive it a bit more before I start dismantling it.

i am not aware of this one. i am only aware of the rear ones, (which i have a kit on the shelf waiting for someday when i have too much free time) where is it mentioned. ?
