Aluminium won’t sustain fine threads and using standard wheel bolts in aluminium hubs would lead to failure.
Using outward facing Engineer’s studs with ordinary wheel nuts may eventually lead to the studs being screwed out of the back by an over enthusiastic air gun operator.
The outside diameter for bearings in steel and aluminium are not entirely interchangeable.
Using inserts meant for repairing threads in order to utilise the original bolts is not in any way suitable. The consequence of them failing doesn’t bear thinking about.
These issues were discussed and resolved via email, so people only saw the results rather than reason.
With the benefit of hindsight, it would have been better raised on the forum.

While the hubs may have looked the part in aluminium, they would in fact have been un-useable.
To avoid a similar thing happening in future it would be better to stop discouraging people from entering into debate on similar posts, regardless of whether it’s something up for sale, or a just list of people showing interest in a particular project.
Rather than promoting the idea of relying on individuals, which could lead to un-necessary pressure being applied, it’s probably better to let everyone have their say.
The best solutions often come from the unlikeliest places.
