How to lower your Elan for free...

Hi,
I still can't understand what you have been doing.
I can't find a rubber top mount of 3 cm thickness, neither can I find a rubber part almost the size of a steering wheel, 34 cm diameter and Inside 11.5 cm?
If you would change a spring top mount from 30mm to 5mm, this would lower your wheel for about 2 inches?
Or there is Something wrong with the convertor?
1 inch = 2,54 cm = 25,4 mm.
Can you take a picture of what you exactly mean?
A bit lower would seem fine for me aswell.

The rubber sits in the top mount Johan, if you remove the strut from the car and undo the nut, and take off the strut top, you will have the rubber insert which is approx 30mm thick, its outside edge circumference is approx 34cm (nowhere near the size of a steering wheel) . If you replace this 30mm thick rubber spring seat with another which is 5mm thick you will effectively lower the suspension by around 25mm. Sorry i dont have a picture of it handy, but if you dismantle it like i have indicated it will be very apparent what needs done, its a simple procedure really .

All measurements quoted by Jamie are a mixture of cm and mm, but to try and put it simply,

The circumference is 34cm, not the diameter - the diameter is the 11cm he talks about).

The part is #91 on page 31.01A of the parts manual, but the better picture is from the Workshop manual....

Make a cut along the red line to reduce the thickness of the rubber pad from 30mm to 5mm.

Is that a before and after pic? If so, I can't see a difference in the ride height.

No, both pictures are after lowering it, here is the before and after pictures to illustrate the amount of lowering achieved.

Its not a huge drop but just enough to take away the excessively high look it had, the one thing didnt want was it slammed to the deck or i would have got a set of Coilovers for it, but reducing the thickness of the rubber spring seat has put it just about where i want it.
