Rear brake discs and pads

Hi everyone,
. My rear brakes were advisory last mot that one of the rear discs was slightly warped and that was why is was probably getting juddering when braking. Also when the brakes have warmed up the rear brake makes a squeeling noise on application of braking. Not constantly but often. Can anyone please advise on replacement discs, where i can obtain them and the pads too, and if good cheaper vauxhall parts are available. If so where can i buy them.

Hi Kevin
Rear discs if standard are unique to the Elan, so no Vauxhall replacement. Currently available on UK Ebay from original manufacturer at £199 per pair plus £12.50 delivery. See http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/271188329444? ... 1423.l2661

Pads are relatively easy from the likes of EBC (eg Greenstuff) or Mintex(MDB1765). Others are available too. No doubt someone else will give their brand/application preferences

Hi Kevin,

I'd be surprised if the disc is warped ... someone may have read too much into the intermittent noise it's making when being turned by hand ... it could be a build up of brake material unevenly spread around the disc. They will probably benefit from a good clean.

Also double check the rear hub bearing adjustment.

Ok thanks for the advice on the discs. The advisory was last year on the mot and i have done only 4k miles since then. I think i will take it to another garage this year for the brake inspection once the mot confirm mot failure on the brakes, as i know they probably will again. That way i will get confirmation the discs are not warped. I`ll ask them to check all the hub bearing adjustment if needed and if discs are scoured then i will have to replace them from where you said for around the £199 mark. Only doing 4k a year they should last me several years then.

Lower mileage is not better as far as rear brake discs are concerned. They don't wear out, they get pitted through dis-use.

Oh ok thanks, i didnt realise they would pit through low use. I purchased the discs from ebay for the price mentioned and have had them fitted with new pads too.
Took the car for a retest and it FAILED again. Similar problems, imbalance across the axle and hand brake working but ineffieciency on near side. The discs are green in colour and he said there is no braking on the discs because they have not turned silver due to the pads not closing on the disc when braking. On the offside it is slightly better, but there is no reading hardly at all on the brake meter reading on the rollers. I have taken the car back to my workplace and the mechanic seems to think the problem is now probably the calipers not working and not closing the pads onto the discs enough. I am now hoping they are not pitted and are refurbishable.
Once again, as with the rear discs, i find it almost impossible to locate some on the internet.
Would greatly appreciate advice on the problem i have mentioned and if calipers needed, where i can buy some or are there any other alternative calipers from different vehicles etc
