Another Alignment

Postby MikeM » Sun 22.06.2025, 21:07

I've been updating the front and rear suspension components, with a combination of rubber and poly bushes (where necessary) , and new ball joints everywhere.
The next step is getting it aligned. My local garage has just installed a JohnBean alignment system and was willing to measure the current suspension alignment.
The settings are all out - as expected after everything has been replaced :-) - but I now have something to start with. Here's what it currently looks like.

They also checked for crabbing etc. Interestingly the NS wheels/tyres are both smaller than the OS, but within tolerance, probably the NS road surface wears out the tyres more quickly. The RHS is 1.5-2mm slightly forward of the LHS and the cross diagonal is out by 3mm. All these are within tolerance, which suggest my chassis is still straight :-)

Once I have some spare camber shims I'll be going back to get them to finish the alignment.

If you can read this, the Caterham is in the garage and the Elan is on the road.

Hi, did he set the car at the proper height when he did the measurements?

We haven’t done the proper alignment yet. This was just a trial run to check everything was ready to go. I have a couple of corroded rear toe bolts to swap out first before we do the alignment proper.
The ride heights are my best measurements on the garage floor, so will need checking when I take it back.
