SILICON HOSES

Postby Blue_Bullet » Tue 20.10.2009, 22:27

ANOTHER UPGRADE I AM LOOKING TO DO IN NEAR FUTURE!

I HAVE BEEN LOOKING AT REPLACING MY ENGINE HOSES FOR THE BLUE SAMCO SILICON SET BUT CANT BELIEVE THE PRICE!

ON EBAY THE CHEAPEST SET ARE £232.95 + POSTAGE Which i think is bloody expensive!

So after searching in google for other alternatives I came across this site and found a more acceptable price of £64

Are they cheap and cheerful or cheap and nasty???

I dont think they are cheap (nasty??) at all :-)

The problem is that for your £64, you get just two hoses :? therefore £32 per hose.

With Samco you get 13 hoses for around about £250 ish, therefore £19.23 per hose.

Samco then are the cheapest (per hose) and you aren't left with 11 old hoses still in place. :poke:

Edit: I also suspect they aren't actually Elan M100 hoses

I'd just like to say that, IMO, the full set of silicone hoses from Samco are worth every penny as far as I am concerned

Ye had a look. I was just wondering what the two hoses were in the £64 link as I'm no expert and wondered whether it was worth getting done whilst the car was in having the cambelt and rear brakes done. The Samco hose kit must be good for that price indeed, not sure I would go for the coloured set though, looks a bit ott for my liking. Thanks for the links though.

I think geoffs link shows the top and bottom hoses for the 60's elan.....
they only had these 2 hoses......good old fashioned simple engineering.....
they dont fit the m100.........however if you had a type 26r, type 46 or type 34 then youre in luck.....

samco all the way for me too......good top quality product and at a very reasonable price too.......

they do come in all colours and that includes black IIRC......the standard hose is blue...only because the materials/chemical used make it that colour....but they apply a cover to the hoses to make what ever colour you want....nearly

cheers

Totally agree with you, Gareth, about the quality and value of these. I've just had a set of black Samco's fitted, so you do remember correctly and they look absolutely.................. well errrr black which is exactly what I wanted. :-)

So, let me get this straight.......

...there is a consensus of opinion that says I have bought 2 sets of chavvy coloured overpriced Samco hoses, when i could have got a set in a nice black for £64, even though they are for the wrong sort of car......

....or i could have kept with the 17 year old originals which were starting to weaken and leak......

.....or I could have bought new Lotus rubber ones for more than the Samcos, only to find that they are also 17 years old, and not all available anyway.....

It all makes sense now
Dave

Just the one now, but this one's mine! - and it will be finished eventually..... - but also temporary custodian of a project until it is finished enough for Angie to drive it

...oh, and a 2006 Freelander destined for the jungles of The Gambia - 4500 miles across roads, desert and tracks - what could possibly go wrong?

I don't mean to be blunt, but this is a recurring theme in your posts - I want but it's overpriced...

You have checked the badge on the front of the car??? OF COURSE IT'S OVERPRICED IT'S FOR A F**KING LOTUS

What makes a wedding cake more expensive than a birthday cake? Does the sponge taste any better - NO, IT'S FOR A WEDDING

If you want to buy parts with ford fiesta mark up then buy a ford fiesta, don't by a niche sportscar.

If you want the car but can't afford to run/upgrade it then tough, perhaps this is some research that should have been done BEFORE buying the car???

We all go through lean times and can't afford what we want but you are the only one whining about it - PLEASE! PLEASE! PLEASE! GIVE IT A REST!
