stuff in stainless steel - who'd have what if I could get it

Postby theelanman » Mon 21.11.2005, 15:13

my mate has hit the prechristmas lull so he's fabing up some stainless rear wishbones which we'll test to destruction before I put a set on my car......he reckons they'll come in at about the £200 mark each (incl vat) so thats cheaper than the lotus galv ones.....
anyway we've been talking and as I'd mentioned a roll bar and as a couple have mentioned wind breaks I thought that we could create something like a roll bar with optional windbreak......then I thought what else....to which I thought rather than me being blinkered in what I'd do....I thought what would the group like if they could have something stainless on their cars.......
the 2 guys at stoneleigh with the SS cover plate with lotus elan laser cut out were spot on and they sold out.......
what would other people like????

just thinking out loud...any ideas welcome and I'll see what he says!!

cheers
Gareth

The stainless steel wishbone thing has been discussed before and i seem to remember there was some concern as to how good/strong they would be compared to the lotus originals.
If they were up to scratch i could well be interested. Why stop at the rear? the fronts are just as prone to rust (well almost)
I seem to recall Sy lent his out to someone to make copies, hows that progressing?

I wouldnt mind the turbo to airfilter pipe in stainless 8)

monty
I dont need any as mine are ok...think theyve been replaced before it was just an upgrade I'd do if they were stainless.....the last lot of stainless ones were £330 incl bushes and I thnk vat on top of that so at the mo its just planning and testing......
then seeing about how many people want them if any...but I'll have a set for spares later when I need them
cheers

Gareth,

Not sure what this cover plate is for, is it the valve cover?

The one thing that springs to mind, when I think of the pools of water in the footwells, is some sill scuff plates, with a slight slope towards the outside of the car.

I don't know if anyone else gets this problem, but I find that the standard plastic scuff plates pool water which flows over the lip into the car before draining to the outside.

If this were an option then some nice Lotus Elan M100 etching might be nice ;)

Just a thought,

Reading back through the earlier posts, I too would be interested in wishbones all round, if proven.

I would also like a turbo to airfilter pipe.

Dico, I assume you would be going for an open filter? Have you got a particular one in mind, I guess that the pipe/filter would need to be paired so if it were to get made it would make more sense to get the same filter?

I have the stainless reas wishbones that were produced a few years ago and they are awesome. I've thrashed the hell out of the car and they haven't broken, and under the grime they are always shiny. I'd be very interested in front wishbones.

Stainless is not a good metal for hips -- we usually use Cobalt-Chrome +/- Moly -or- Titanium alloys, depending on which component it is . . .

Though stainless is the most abundant metal for fracture fixation with plates and screws--I doubt you want those in you unless you have to . . .

Well actualy i meant to replace the corugated one, and so to keep the boxed in air filter.
Not really keen on open air filters. They may look good but all at the risk of contaminants and warm air - no ta.

I'd be interested in a direct replacement for this pipe too if possible.
