Your thoughts/feelings after installing the mountain chip...

No Geoff i couldn't get to the split pin to take it apart. I could only do the wiggle with just the bracket off and hose off top of the capsule. The wastegate and the little link felt free so i didn't bother taking it apart from the link end. Andy

Ive blocked the hose that leads to the electronic boost control and the hose that leads to the actuation capsule at the same time. I gave the car a short run after warming up for ten minuets. The same results as before up to the first notch on the gauge but no feeling of boost. Andy

Well the list is getting smaller then. Either you are making boost and losing it via a hose off or split or you are not making boost at all which is turbo/wastegate related (apologies for stating the obvious ) On another thread someone mentioned you were changing hoses around prior to installing the everest chip (MBC ?)

Just as routine i changed the hose that had the bleed valve in and the short hose that Ive been taking on and off the actuation capsule. There the only two that have been touched besides the big ribbed hoses. Andy

On the bleed valve (also known as the boost control solenoid or electronic boost control) the small hose that comes off the bottom is the bleed hose and should go to the air intake pipe, the small one that goes into the side of the bleed valve is connected to the Turbo compressor housing, correct? (just checking as you have eliminated the bleed valve as a problem by plugging it off) regardless the bleed valve only starts to work above 2900 rpm (below that the boost is controlled solely by the capsule to a max of 0.41) above 2900 various things take place within the ecu sending signals to the bleed valve which pulses to bleed the air off into the intake thus closing the wastegate and allowing boost up to 0.65, or in your case 0.9.

When you remove the air intake hose to turbo (from the turbo end) in the above picture and start the engine, can you see the turbo spinning?
From idle mine stops after about 5-6 seconds.

I havent had a look at the turbo blades whilst the car is running but it does move free with your fingers. So i start the car and the turbo blades should spin for 5 or 6 seconds and then stop. Is that correct? Andy

have you checked the hose connections at the air-cooler? The air-cooler is located under the LHS front light pod, behind the bumper.

The inlet connection of the air-cooler can be checked from the engine bay (by simply peering over the top, and reaching down....make sure the engine is cooled down) The hose here, is the turbo outlet to air-cooler inlet.

The outlet connection of the air-cooler is best checked by removing the LHS front wheel arch liner. The hose connection here connects to the metal hose that protrudes out of the wing into the engine bay.

I remember someone having the air cooler outlet connection blow off which resulted in no build up off pressure in the plenum.

Something else to check.

Yes half anyway i had a pretty good look top side and a feel about for a leek but felt nothing. I haven't had a look from the wheel arch. I hope its an easy job taking the liner out. I'm going to be groaning again. Andy

Unless its been out recently and/or the fasteners have been replaced with s/s, you wont have much fun taking the liner out

We are not much further forward than the last post. I haven't managed to check the pipe to the air cooler at the front yet. I'm changing the front nearside wheel in the morning. I was hoping that with the car in the air i might be able to check the pipes are OK. Without removing the wheel arch liner.We are hoping to take the car to Donington with or without the turbo. Will driving any sort of distance coarse any long term damage? We are hoping that someone will have the Elan Scan at Donington and hopefully let us run it on our car, with a bit of luck. Would we need to bring a laptop with us or is there usually people there who we could use their computers? We don't want to appear presumptuous. We would purchase our own Scan but its bad enough following LECs Web site. In fact any web site. I don't think where Quite ready for the scan yet. Well not without supervision. We are not very good with this computer thing just in case you hadn't noticed. Cheer's Max & Andy

If you have a leak then possible damage will depend on where the leak is. If your engine is breathing dusty air, then you would not be doing it much good.
It's a catch 22: Do you take the Elan to get it scanned then (possibly) find out you've got a leak in the wrong place, or leave it at home & have to wait longer before finding the fault?
Remember that Elanscan is not that easy to read: it gives you data & facts which have to be interpreted. The interpretation is the hard bit...unless you have a Geoff about

I'll have my laptop and leads with us. But as Iain (rip) says, getting the data is the easy bit, and I am not an expert on the interpretation....

that said, if Geoff (or anyone else) is not about at the right time, at least we will have a data set that he (they) can be forced to look at later on .

When will you be there? are you staying, or just a short visit? (I'll be around Sat & Sun).
