Dave's shortshift

OK, I need to tighten this up - changing right now is a little like stirring custard. It looks like Dave's shortshift plus the AB cables are the way to go - is this the accepted wisdom?

Driving from Aberdeen to Andover last week was a perfect excuse to drop in on the relatives in Whitley Bay .....and Dave H!

So after nearly a year sitting in the boot, the short shift is now fitted.

Oh how I lusted after the firm shift of an MX-5 or the precise feel of Mini Cooper....now I have it . The difference the kit makes is incredible. The whole operation is now a lot shorter, firmer and precise.

I would recommend this to anyone who still has the old sloppy celery stalk shift! Its a superb upgrade. Without it the Elan is missing a critical bit of sportscar feel.

Many, many thanks to Dave who took half an hour on a sunny Friday night to do the work while I held the spanners plus thanks to John W in Aberdeen who showed me what I was missing.

Can't recommend this mod too highly,

I forgot to write down my toughts about Dave's Shortshift ... I put a small review into my own thread so after we installed but the real feeling ...

After some wheeks with Dave's shortshift it's time to tell my feelings/toughts onto this mod I did.

For me the shortshift modification is what our Lotus Elan deserves, Lotus must made the car like this; but we all almost forget that our car is already ~20 years old.

So ... with the upgrade kit U lose directly the messy, sloppy and long gearchanges "It's like you are making mayonaise without Dave's shortshift"; the gearchanges are more precise and faster.

The only thing I am dealing with is that if I come down from 3th it sometimes hard to get into 2th gear. But I will ask my garage to check that when my car is there to fit my AP Brakes. I'm almost sure we can fix this issue by good tuning of the parts.

For me one of the best upgrades for my Elan so far.

You both are very professional, friendly AND helpfull people...

When the mountain chip give me more power (and fun) and the shortshifter make my gearshifting so much better and faster.

OKOK... You all deserves an A++++++ but regarding of the fun-smile-happyness-whooot-factor of the modification, I must put 'someone' first.

And beside of the super-nice and 'excellent' modification of my gear/shift-system, the mountain chip changed the whole car just a little bit more than expected.

But the two modifications together are "the perfection"!

I finally got around to installing the short shift kit this weekend and I must say what a major improvement! It was kind of like shifting and old mini, hoping to find the right gear when you let the clutch out. Now as everyone else has said shifts are very precise and much easier to drive.
This is my wifes car so making thing smoother and easier helps in at a minimum of two ways. She has not had a change to drive yet but will this coming weekend and I will be very interested to see what she thinks. I can say from my side it is one of the better mods and I wish it was around on our first M100 as it would have been top on the list to install.

If you're quick I know where you can get one - Douglas Valley Breakers. It's on G UK's old car that went there after he flipped it.
You'd probably have to buy the complete bolt-on selector box, and they're known for not being the cheapest of places.
While in there it would be worth asking for a price for the gear cables from the same car (because they probably don't realise it's got AB's in it).
