Now I just have a bit of reading up to do to find out which chip I can fit with my
9929 ECU and no O2 sensor....

Car also has at some point had a larger bore exhaust system fitted which I (or my neighbours) don't mind removing !

Oh, and I guess I will now be looking for a boost controler....

Top service from Alan - chip sent Monday for a 1499 reflash, arrived back this morning . Now to hope I can get the O2 sensor bung out without too much hassle.

No use changing the chip if you are going to trick it with plumbing.

A good spraying with penetrating oil every day should help.
I hope you have the right wiring for an O2 sensor. Mine didn't

I checked the harness plug was there before ordering the upgrade, so I'm pretty confident it will work. I've been spraying it with plus gas daily since Sunday, and I have 3ft breaker bar.

Well that's a good start. All in and fitted, car starts + seems to rev okay. Not had a chance to drive anywhere yet! I did a fair bit of digging into O2 sensors which I'll add to the wiki.

Ooh, please make a note of your car's age etc on the wiki so others know which ones might be a good bet!

Hi Rip, Sorry. I have just seen your reply..

Was a bit confused as to whether I need the O2 sensor! Looking at your reply it looks like it will have to be my next purchase / upgrade?
I wasn't sure it would work with ( or was required) my current set up? (lots more reading up to do)!!

Everest chip still on "the things to do shelf" along with the Mintex pads (and numerous other parts).

Brakes first. fun after I'm satisfied I can stop !

Car was repainted yesterday hopefully today will be clearcoat and then re assembly... so should get her back soon!!

Then only have suspension,Wheel refurb / replacement, downpipe / PCE, seat bases, coolant recirc pump, heater valve, ball joint boots, fluid change... etc

so many jobs to do I think it should have all been posted on a "projects car major site" Oh, the joys of buying an elan that has been abused / unused for years!!

o2 Sensors are good! just upgraded and tested mine, normaly get about to the 220/240 mile mark before the low fuel light comes on. This weekend knocked up 260 and still a bit left before the light comes on, so the cars cheeper to run, greener and will fly though the MOT.

Looking forward to matching your fuel efficienty pj. (normally manage about 300 km per tank?? even when driving steady. but mostly city driving, must be the heat or poor fuel quality)??
Although when fuel is only about 16p / litre this is not really a concern

Finally got that damn plug out and fitted the O2 sensor the other day.
After soaking in oil for a week took her out for a blast, a few ice cubes on the plug and tha aid of a 3' breaker bar... Finally it broke free....

Code 13 finally gone so I guess the wires inside are inplace... Finally, something is not done the hard way !!!

Looking forward to unlocking the everest chips extra boost...... but running into a few problems at the moment... back down to .65 0n the gauge I'm sure it's operator error. will experiment more at the weekend...

I'm building a track car and have had my turbo rebuilt to be a Hybrid.
1/ Will the chips be any good with my modified turbo and fast flow exhaust?
2/ Will an O2 sensor help performance and tuning?

not sure about the hybrid question, but if it uses the same boost control system id imagine it would work the same to acheive the target boost.

As for the o2, its for part open throttle fuel economy and emissions, Hit WOT and the 02 input is ignored in favor of an open loop 'throw as much fuel in as possible' approach.

TBH from what I've read I doubt closed loop would really be much use on a track-only car. As pjw says you'll be at WOT a lot of the time. Also keeping the AFR manually set gives you another variable to tinker with, and less parts to go wrong. Self-management is great on a road car but you may prefer everything to be manually tweakable on a track car?

I see, so it will not help performance, but fuel economy is a good thing especially if you have to carry extra just to throw out the exhaust. I should probably have a manual boost controller.

Hi,

Any help would be greatly appreciated, I have ESM's mountain chip on my S2 with a switcher. The switch bit has suddenly stoped working (it no longer shows any numbers) and the car is still running with standard boost, but as I don't know how this works I was looking for some pointers as to how to debug the issue i.e. cable, switch or ECU chip.

If the cable hasn't got any visible damage it's probably the switch. You can get a new one here (it comes with a cable)

Is there anywhere else to get these, or does anyone have one spare, as they want $51 to ship it to the UK which makes the whole cost over $75 (about £45) which seems a bit steep, but I'll do it if there is no other option.
