Pinky II is a 1990 and Dico's is a 1993 but our systems are identical. Could be that the S2 is the other option mentioned in the manual  :?:

From the above post and related pic on page 3 of this thread, that is what the US pipe looks like. I'll get a picture of it "in location" tonight when I'm working on the car.

Actually you'd think after all this time I'm bent over like a speed skater - but with the car up on stands, it's not too bad. After I put it down it always amazes me how low the car is!

The silver pipe is the pipe in question on the US cars. My radiator setup is not quite stock, but is very close to the stock location.

That does look similar to the SE, so i think u USA guy`s will have to decide if to go for the full hose which is the S2 version.

Not poking my nose in, but would it not be better to compare the price difference between the one piece hose or the two, before you make a decision about which way to go ?

so i guess the only reason that there is the metal joining pipe is cos it gives more protection?

We can`t go for the one i pictured (SE type) above as the S2 owners will not have the long metal pipe. So it would need to be the full monty, saying that looked at Marks S2 over the weekend and that had the small joint in it, same as the one in the diagram which is in red. Anyways Dico is back today and Grahames hose is waiting for him once we know which one it is then thats what we`ll go for.

I would'nt have thought so Chris, as the metal pipe is fitted to SE's only.
i.e prior to the S2, meaning if it offered more protection Lotus would have kept it for the S2. Perhaps they didnt have the tooling to do a one piece hose when the SE was brought out??

Paul,
Like Monty says, doing it in one piece (rather than 3 or 2) means the S2 chaps can join in.

Grahame,
I recieved your hose yesterday. I've only just got back from an overnighter, so its going in the post any minute now. I'll push Samco to return it within the week as they stated. thanks :)

I was only thinking Paul, if it was gonna be mega expensive to produce the one piece hose as opposed to the two piece one, it may be more viable to get the S2 owners to put the pipe in, but if there's not much difference in price it doesn't matter. I understand it is better if it is made in one piece as less joints to leak !

"...as less joints to leak" and more expense to replace it when it blows (in 15 years time).

Sorry, but being as Monty has recently relieved me of my "pedant" duties I thought I'd revert to "devil's advocate" instead.

Which pedant duties are those (s1 s2 SE NA pdp s3 s4 PMSL):-D

See what Samco comes back with, if it`s expensive the we could go for the small joint version.

Just a point to note, when I took the one piece hose of my car, in two places along the bottom part there was pieces of foam rubber cable tied to the pipe I expect to stop chafing.

Can we get a list of the hoses that are being proposed for the set, are we talking about "as many as possible" or water circ only?

I don't know about everyone else but I would prefer to dig deep and shell out for a complete set in one go, inc turbo/air filter hoses or any others that may be there, rather than do half of it and then try and get "the rest" sorted later, as I am pretty sure that other things will get in the way so the job will never be complete.

I think also that the hoses should replace standard, although I realise that compromise between SE/S2 difference in design will be necessary, but if an opportunity to improve the design is available then that should be taken. One example of this would be the hose which leaves the top of the engine and into the top of the wheel arch, into which a dump valve is plumbed (sorry, no idea of the technical name/description), which starts at 2.5" and gradually reduces to 2". If this reduction was over a shorter distance with a longer section of 2" hose then I would feel far more confident in approaching the install of a dump valve than I do now.

Just my thoughts....

As you can see my attempts at copying Montys 'complete coolant hose set' off page three has failed miserably.
Anyway its there.

I think this 'reduced' set alone may be quite pricey. but i've really no idea.
So as not to put too many people off we're better off sticking with this for now i feel.
Not only that but quite a few people have the dump valve instalation already taken care of, so the plenum (?) pipe you mention isnt required by many. (including me  )

Anyway, fingers crossed that the price is reasonable then we could perhaps do an alternative set.

Anyone have pics of different coloured hoses already fitted to the car?

I just want an idea of the different effects within the engine bay.

My initial thought was red car = red hoses, however it occurs to me that the red hose could be (and probably is) far removed from the car colour.

Just thought it would be nice to see red, blue and yellow hoses in situ, obviously they don't have to be in the same car :D

No problems if the car isn't silk red (like mine) as I will try a bit of photo-magic on the PC to get the effect.

Thanks

My $.02 on colored hoses: After living with red turbo hose connections (7 total) on my car for a few years, they are sometimes tough to keep clean. And I don't drive my car typically in wet weather. Add wet road grime to it and the hoses may look brown more than red/yellow/blue. The darker the color, the better if you do decide to go colored. Add to this the location of some of these hoses, and they may be near impossible to clean without taking some things out or getting under the car. I do that sort of silly stuff anyway, but for those who are a bit more sane, it may drive you nuts.

That said, I'm in for *black* hoses.
