Realistically I don't think many of us have ever really bothered with recording 0-60 times as it's of limited value in real world driving and is more dependant on thye ability to get the power down on the road (traction) than outright grunt. A turbo car needs to have the turbo on boost to produce the power and 0-60 is not a good measure of that. What you will get with the PECO and an Everest is a very satisfying surge in the mid range and at motorway speeds you get the acceleration even in fifth. Use the gears sensibly to keep the turbo boosting and you'll have all the power you need on the road.

I find it feels like your squeezing the power out when your getting it right. Just enough at the right time. Like feathering the turbo boost in. I'm not sure if that sounds like what i mean. You get the maximum power and boost out without spinning the wheels. And the feeling the power is being delivered to each front wheel evenly. I feel its a very fine line of putting to much power down and getting it just right. When you do get it right it feels like your hitting the sweet spot. That's why i like turbos. Max

Realistically I think many of us are bothered, and interested in 0 to 60mph times! I have lost count how many times I have been asked this question once people see or find out that a am driving a sporty little Lotus! Are you telling me you have never been asked this, and do you give that answer to the boys down the pub/golf club/squash court/Polo club/Long bowls/chess club/sqingers bar lol anyone care to add some more? etc etc
Of course everyone who is passionate about there pride and joy would like to see/know some statistics and comparison charts to maybe just help them see what they can achieve what is achievable!

I think you don't know what you mean and if you don't like this post then please do not post your boring lectures in it!

Thanks XiPHiAS and HJ2 for the posts so far I am sure there are many more to come!

Aha..... I see 3/4 points worthy of comment (if I may be so bold as to stick my oar into the murky water)........

1) If a few are bothered, then it may be a reasonable question - but "many", I doubt. [I may well be proved wrong, time will tell]

2) I'm sure that anyone who posts does know what they mean - but perhaps it doesn't come out as clearly in the short written response - there are a number of recognised stages in transference of information........
(a) the holder of the information has to understand it
(b) he then has to say/write it correctly
(c) the other party has to hear/read it correctly
(d) the other party has to understand what was said/written.

3) As for 'Boring Lectures' - I can't see any! Good, sensible opinion and information is VERY relevant.

After all, 0-60 times are only any use in drag racing, bar-room bragging and a game of Top Trumps - not a good measure of a cars' performance driving on 'standard' roads, or tracks - now, if the question were of 40 - 70 times I can see the particular relevance, as that is (in my experience) where you need the power to come in strong for a safe overtake, or to open up on the way out of a steady bend/chichane.

In fact, RIP started my thought process along those lines in his thread on setting the CAS position to give the best times in that range, regardless (within reason) of the exact number of degrees set at.

When I went out and tried it (with a Piper exhaust, and different settings on the switcher chip), i was amazed at the variations in time I could achieve - and even when i could feel it coming in - some settings nice and progressive, some a bit more sudden, but all worthy of an hour or so spent on a deserted stretch of straight dual-carriageway with a 12mm spanner & stopwatch. I should have used elanscan for dead accurate readings, but i wasn't really interested in the actual numbers, just the comparison between them. {FYI the times varied between about 6 seconds and 13 seconds - all in 4th gear, driving at a steady 40 then wide open throttle to 70}
No doubt, if I'd used the gearstick and kept the revs in the powerband with full boost, the numbers would shorten a bit - but as i say, I was after a setting which works in 'real world' driving, as experienced by me, and not something to spin the wheels in the Traffic Light Grand Prix to impress the ladies.

4) Yep - thanks to those who have taken the time to measure and respond - and from what I have read in your other posts, I believe you have obtained the results you show for the right reasons for your circumstances/use of the elan

Any more to come?.....

.....maybe......

.....but in the meantime, I invite you to accept all comments on the thread as they are intended - In a way to offer advice and help - we all have 'better' things to do with our time, but will gladly offer advice and help where it is requested or thought beneficial to either one person, or the whole community.....

....if it were intended as a 'pi$$ take' or an insult, there are much more worthy targets and better formats to deliver them (sending an e-mail to an exiled Geordie is always a good start!)

:agree:

An acceleration run from say 40 to 70 will give a better indication of the power being produced as you have little driver influence, all he has to do is press the pedal to the floor and steer, where as 0 -60 times are influenced a great deal by the driver and the points at which you change gear amongst other things.
Some cars require 2 gears to reach 60 others 3 so if you try to compare them, if all other things are equal the one with the extra shift will be slower. Like wise put two different people in the same car they will get differing times and in this case the only thing that is a variable is the driver. My Elan does not have a turbo but the final drive ratio is different so the 0 -60 time will be close to the turbo as it sacrifices top end speed for acceleration. You can take this to higher levels like a friend of mine who had a car setup to do auto tests flat out it was a push to get 60mph out of it but the acceleration was excellent.

You are entitled to your opinion, I am not obliged to share it. If it's important to you I'm fine with that.

I said 0-60 is not a relevant measure of performance in real world driving, there are too many variables, as others have pointed out in more detail than I did, a key factor is the ability of the driven wheels to get the power down without spinning. The mid range acceleration is a far more relevant measure of performance. Of interest Xiphias' 6.6 Sec is only 0.1 Sec faster than the original factory times for a standard car. So when asked the question the answer is simple 6.6 or 6.7 Sec.

Next time I have my car on track I will gladly give you a demo of what I apparantly don't know about

I am contemplating adding this gaugeto the dash over the winter. It'll provide some 0-60 times among other things. I do have a passing interest in the 0-60 time of the car since its been modified although I acknowledge all the points made by other about its relevancy when assessing the car's true power. The stock model was advertised at 6.7 seconds I believe.

My pleasure. Club Lotus track day at Castle Combe next year is certain if I'm around then (can't say with certainty that I will be). Nothing planned for the remainder of this year at present as I have too much else on.

Apologies. I was talking bollox

Actually i bet I wasn't too far off the mark there.
This was in the good ole days of the BBR (half a kit as Murph would say). As has been pointed out, traction is the issue, even with the Quaife fitted.
