Hello
I am trying to smog my Elan here in CAL and am running the Everest Chip. We did a pre-test and the tech said I was absolutely going to fail the test....It has been too long to remember, did the Everest replace the factory chip or did it stack onto the factory one. If it replaced the factory chip, I cannot for the life of me, find mine.
Also, has anyone in CAL with the chip passed their smog test?
thanks

Derrick,
The verest is a piggyback, so you could pull it out if you wanted and it would revert to stock. However, I doubt it is to blame since the parameters on the ship in the test range should be identical to the normal chip.
Things to consider. Be sure plugs and timing is on spot, as if not they can be to blame. Also be sure the main cat is "warmed up" before the test = drive the car on high rpm or let it run at high rpm for a few minutes to heat up the cat !!
I have passed the last test in CA with the everest chip and no pre-cat . . .

thanks Doug
I will be going back to the shop on Sat and will try removing the chip first...
I had to re-install my CAT today and did the recommended hard pre-drive to get everything warm. the difference without a CAT is HUGE!, the car breathes some much better over 4000 rpm w;o the CAT
Doug, I haven't checked in for a while and see you are selling the ELAN! It can't be....but I understand....I got a Maserati Spyder last year and have been neglecting the ELAN.....but in all honesty...the ELAN is so much more fun to drive than the Maserati.....hopefully you will be back in an ELAN soon.....thanks for the site, your time. the info, and the great memories!

Doug's got it right, its easy to pull the chip and revert to stock but the chip doesn't effect emissions until the boost goes over 0.6 bar (not likely to happen in the test).
If you check out my site (see my www link below) you'll be able to see the installation instructions which are easily reversed to restore the original setup.
It takes 43 muscles to frown and 17 to smile, but it doesn't take any to sit on your arse with a blank look on your face.
Click on my WWW link for information on chips and ElanScan.
