Will this be a good choice? 16x6J offset:+55 rim

Postby kmckmc » Tue 05.06.2007, 01:49

I found a set of OZ cast wheels/rims.

It is 16x6J , 4x100, offset +55,

OE spec is 16x7J, 4x100, offset +60

I was told that this 16x6J wheel could still use 205/45/16 tire.

Please advise.

Cheers,

Dear kmckmc:

I don't think going to a narrower rim is a good idea. As a rough rule of thumb, you should try for a rim that is as wide as the tire is wide. The reason for this is that the car will "communicate", if you will, with the road through the edges of the wheel (the only part of the rim that touches the tire) and through the side walls to the patch that contacts the road. It has been my understanding that you should try to have the edge of the rim "over" the edge of the tire.

Have written the foregoing, I better shut up now and let people who have a better understanding of this issue chime in with something profound and wise.

If you are serious about alternative rims for the M100, PM me and I will forward to you some e-mails I exchanged with Compomotive in the UK. That have a wheel that they can do in a 16 X 7 with a 60MM offset.

Sincerely,

Algirdas

The Borstal Academy Mechanic seems to make a hell of a lot of sense to me.
