I had a vw golf and got it's wheels refurbed professionally, it cost £200 (that was about 4 years ago). For those they skimmed them on a lathe and lacquered them. They looked nice for a couple of months but then the lacquer started coming off.

When I got my Elan, the ones on their had recently been sprayed so I'm not sure if they'd been on a lathe, I'm not sure there is a need to do that if you're spraying them?

I've recently bought some wheels from e-bay for my new golf and decided to refurb them myself. They were badly crubed but I'm pretty pleased with the results. I don't claim for one minute that they are as good as if I had got them done professionally, but it's saved me a fair bit of money. When I took them to the tyre place 2 people working there asked me where I'd got them done, that's gotta be a good sign?

This is what they looked like on the previous car, as you can see a lot of curbing (they were all pretty much the same!)

The downside is that I spent the best part of two weekends, rubbing down, filling, sanding, filling again, etc, as well as the time spraying.

This is what they look like now (the photo makes them look a bit white, but they are silver though I promise)
