Most people visiting this forum and this section in particular have an interest in tyres.
I wonder how many of you know about the Tyre Noise Regulation that comes into force in October?
This is a highly complex piece of interference by well meaning bureaucrats that no one in the industry
fully understands, and Ministry civil servants cannot give clear definitions on!
The first instalment of this legislation relates to (in our case) passenger tyres up to 185 section width,
and all van, 4x4, suv and truck tyres (over simplified explanation) that are sold to be fitted on modern
vehicles using the public highway. This law has been advised for aprox. 5 years,but due to a lack of
information / updates from the EU and leading tyre manufacturers (to keep non EU products out)
there are hundreds of thousands of non conforming tyres in European tyre wholesalers. This will cause
last minute dumping to clear stocks. Watch out for bargains in August and September.
Perhaps Dave (dapinky) could update us on his understanding, and what training he has recieved to
identify these products, or is it being left to Trading Standards Officers?
At least the "Tyre Antipollution" Law ( don't ask) is simple and relates to date of manufacture.
