SE Wheel refurbishment & Route OZ stickers

Postby Twayblade » Fri 12.11.2021, 10:43

I know there is some historic detail on this topic but most of it is quite old.
I have an SE and one of the wheels is marked, I guess this means I have to refurb all four
Were these wheels originally powder coated? colour? Can anyone recommend a wheel refurb company (I'm based near St Albans,Herts ) or any advice on this topic
Route OZ wheel stickers? it looks as if they were available way back? any help in sourcing a set be would be greatly appreciated

If you're going down the sticker approach, make sure you get the spelling correct. It's Ruote

Years ago someone on LEC made some passable copies but I can't remember who it was. It was at least 10 years ago.

Suggestion.... take a photo and measurement of one of your existing stickers and go to your local print shop and get a set made up.

PS I don't think the OEM wheels were powder coated. I think they were a brushed alloy. I had a set powder coated many years ago and whilst the job was good it was different to the original finish

And, for originality, remember to get the Ruote OZ sticker in the right position once you have refurb'd your wheels. From memory it was 2 spokes along from the embossed LOTUS logo

Good point re the spelling! and thanks for the other suggestions
I had recognised the sticker location for originality was of relevance.

All my wheels were refurbished when I bought the car so I don't have the writing on the rim. Does anyone have the dimension as I have a vinyl cutter and could could cut a stick on stencil so they could be painted on.

It was Paul Watkins who made them - and it was probably 15 years ago......

Not sure about counting the spokes, but it is directly opposite the valve stem.

I think they were painted or powder coated. The refurbishing process loses some of the sharp edges and detail and the coating is thicker to hide defects. Also the originals weren't shiny and used a fine flake with a greyish silver, Refurbers like a bit more shine and sparkle with a bright silver.
