Oh yes indeed those are real. Those are the Michelin run-flat tires, minus the sidewall so we can see how the bugger works! In the past they've gone with boosting the sidewall. Now, they're looking to do the entire tire. Goodyear and Michelin are the two manufacturers who are most prominent in this technology. All I can think of is the sprung weight. But there's the advantage of not needing to check the missus's tire pressure every so often.
