Tyres pressure and wrong sized fronts??

Postby stevieg8571 » Sun 09.10.2005, 23:11

Hi,
I've just got my 1st elan but don't have a manual with it.
Can anyone tell me what the pressures should be please.
Also, it has 195 50 15 on the front which I'll be replacing with the correct 205/50s soon, should I inflate these to the pressure the 205s should be at?
The rears are decent 205/50s Pirelli P700s. Should I swap em with the 195s from the front or leave things as they are to wear the unwanted 195s quicker?
Thanks in advance, Steve

Tyre pressures.

Postby Mike_H » Mon 10.10.2005, 01:44

Hi Steve ,
I've just sent you a copy of my scanned manual . It has the tyre pressures in it.
I don't know about inflating the 195's to the same as the 205's , I think I would just replace them with the correct tyre size as soon as possible.

Congrats on getting the Elan, Steve and welcome to the forum!

I'm with Mike and would replace the tires as soon as you reasonably can. I would also recommend putting the same size and type tire on all four corners. Different tires will have different grip/ride/handling abilities so it's best to run the same all around.

As for pressure, start with what the manual reccomends and adjust to your liking (usually up - I wouldn't go much lower than the manual). On all my vehicles I typically run mine about 5 psi less than the max rating on the tire for normal street driving and near the max rating (if not higher) on the track.

Good luck and let us know how else we can help.
Rumors of my demise have been greatly exaggerated.
