I am refurbishing the wheels on my 1990 ym m100 what is the correct colour paint to use ? :roll:

refurnishing in silver.... S1 standard wheels..

Not a set of S2's wheels.... in yellow...

this may not be of much help but ..
i have had 12 elans now and all of them have been different colours and different shade (well not all on the same car)
so my advise is to find a decent silver and get a bucket load. as to touch in or try and match will result in a nightmare...

even when i have has s2 wheels refurb the colour comes back different to the stock wheels i have in the garage...

so ..
whilst not the answer you were looking for a suggetion that may help you on your way..

(and the s2 with yellow inserts that sy now has were refurbd by me and they a NMY not lotus camel yellow..)

agree with clemo and that makes sense if you are doing all 4 wheels, but let's say you only need to do 2 -- then I'd say have them match the other 2 as best they can and then put the two old on one side of the car and the 2 new on the other. Then even if someone is a painter they won't be able to tell if the colours are different from side to side - and since you'd rotate the tires only front to back then you are set and it will never matter

Given the amount of alloy on the SE wheel, I think it may not look as effective as the S2...thanks for the constructive feedback Specky! :wink:

If your Elan is NM then, personally, I'm not fond of colour matched wheels/cars.
But, if the car's NM - why not give BRG a try on the wheels? No, probably not a good idea...

Here's the answer from Lotus:-

The wheels came in painted, so it's OZ we need to contact about the paint codes. The one person at the factory who 'might' know is on hols this week, but the other guy in technical relayed that information..

Another Question will be asked shortly...

you can do OE badges or I'd recommend you leave them off or get the contact info from Sy V about the decals in the same font you could get in black or coloured instead -- they look nicer and more modern IMHO.

Getting there....

I will have to get the Wheel details out (drawing) - I guess it will just have the OZ Code on the drawing.

The wheel colour is normally specified by using a Manufacturer Swatch (OZ in this case) for the first samples.

In the OZ case they normally supply a swatch (metal plate about 125 mm x 50 mm) of all the colours available in their paint plant at that time. Normally we pick one of the standard colours.
Every year they normally introduce a couple of new colours and drop some old ones. When production of that specification of wheel is changed we normally have to do an 'all time buy' and stock a number of wheels as the particular colour may not be available when we want to reorder.
