+53 Work Wheels (now custom JLine wheels @ +60)

I think a few people have purchased Work wheels but I seem to recall they had a +48 offset (or there about). However, I came across these +53 offset Work wheels which would probably be as close to stock as one will find unless you go with custom wheels.

As far as 5 spoke wheels go I like it. Could be because I don't like the classic 5 spoke design - to Ferrari or Mercedes for me. However, seems Work has been busy rounding out their offerings. Here's another with a high offset that looks nice.

I think both are nice looking wheels. I actually like the first ones better. Of course, I don't have $1200-1300 just laying around for something like that.

It seems that Work has other wheels that would fit our applicaitons. These are their higher end wheels (and a bit more expensive) but the offset looks pretty good

I think their wheel is fairly attractive but we will have to knee cap them pretty well to get the price reasonable.

Hi Algirdas, good to hear your typing again Seems to me that, as far as wheels go, (and as far a my research has taken me) we've really only got 2 choices.

1. Find a stock wheel that's as close to +60 as one can get (because no one makes a stock wheel for our specs with an offset of +60).

2. Go custom.

The Enkei and Work wheels are the closest I've found in 17" wheels and offsets ranging from +50 to +56. That's close enough if you abide by the +/- 20% rule. But, I found that the pricing on the Work wheels can get a bit high (street price of up to $500 per wheel at the high end).

However, I've been communicating with the folks at Jlinewho make custom wheels. They can definitely meet the OEM spec of our wheels and I've seen them advertised on the web for as low as $390 a wheel. Now, by the time you add your coating and finish preferences, etc., I'm sure they'd be more but that's pretty good for custom wheels and they have some nice styles too.

It is my understanding that the Compomotive wheel would be +60 offset and otherwise meet all of our "custom" needs. Plus, with them being in the UK, I thought it might be best for the largest group of people. And as far as aesthetics go, I don't see the MO6 wheel as being all that ugly.

On their website they seem to offer that model in a 4x100, 17x7 wheel with a max offset of +45 only. In a 16x7 they offer it in a +53. I noticed in their note to you that they say "We can manufacture 7x16 wheels suitable for your vehicle" which doesn't outright say they will make it in +60. To me, I assumed they were saying that they can make something "suitable" as in "close" but not exactly +60. But, that's just me assuming away here (again ) and you are the guy who's communicated with them - not me But, it'd be nice if they could confirm that wheel is available in a +60 offset. If not, the specs are not materially better than the Enkei's and Work's and worse if you want to go to a 17 inch wheel.

I couldn't find a US price for them on any site but a UK siteshows the M06 in 16x7 for 179GBP which is roughly $375 and in 17x7 for 201GBP (roughly $415). Don't know what that would mean to a North American dealer (more or less whith shipping, duties, etc. - guessing a bit more). Now, at those prices, the Enkei's are less and the Work's are about the same or a bit more depending on which one you'd want. A custom Jline wheel could be just a tad more (starting price) to get a lighter, forged wheel with a +60 offset. Who knows what prices could be available out there for a group buy.............??????????

At least there seem to be more options out there for us now.



EDIT: As an afterthought, I could always approach Stan at Jline and ask him what he'd do for a group buy pricewise and if he'd be willing to cut out the middleman in a group buy. Might take a hundred wheels (20 cars) though to get his attention................

The compomotive wheels are $324 each but that price is pretty old. If we can get Jline for around $300 or less a throw, I could start getting pretty excited about that.

Algirdas, I suspect that they'd be somewhat more than $300 a wheel at retail prices (for the "base" wheel finish which is a polished, almost chrome-like aluminum). Have to see if we can get them for less. But, as far as I'm concerned, If I'm going to spend $350 on a "stock" wheel that doesn't exactly match the offset we want, I'd gladly pay $400 to get an exact match spec-wise.

For some reason I seem to recall something about them being made "on premise" (which would be in Cali) but I can't find that statement anywhere. Always something I can ask about too. They do have some nice wheels though. The 2 piece wheels with reverse lip would be good enough for us I believe. There's one model not on their "line up" page that they also offer. Its an 11 spoke wheel and you can see it in their gallery section, under BMW and on the last page of their pics. Personally, I like their 7RL, 10RL and this "hidden" 11RL wheel.

I think he said their bore is 75mm but they supply rings to suit our 56.6mm hub. I was planning on taking some pics of the OEM wheel and sending them to Jline to have them confirm they can do a wheel that will clear the Wilwood brakes. That's after I get through the fascia project I'm working on though.

Algirdas (and anyone else who's interested), it seems that Jline will not do group buys and insists that you work through their dealer network. Can't blame them for supporting their resellers I suppose. I'm calling some of their web resellers to get some quotes on the 17 and 16 inch wheel. Its my understanding that there's no price difference between styles - just the finishes and if its 2 or 3 piece. So, I will inquire about the 10rl2 wheel with high polish finish. I've seen a "list" price of $425 per wheel but I'm guessing we can do a bit better.

Anyone interested? I can always inquire with the dealer if they'd be willing to offer a price break for a group buy.

Best we can do here is about $500 a wheel for bright polish and ceramic clear coating over top (less if you don't want the clear coating but keeping the aluminum polish up is lots of work). Still pretty good for a well built, forged custom wheel with the exact specs we need. But, that's still over $2K all in for them

At those prices (was shipping and taxes included?) you'd be better off having some custom wheels made in the exact offset of +60. My 10RL2 JLine wheels will be arriving in about 4 weeks. I'll have paid about $2,000 USD for them (pre tax and shipping).
