Hi Jon,

yes, they'll certainly fit (might nee the plastic concentric rings which are pictured in their 'free fitting kit' - the Elan needs wheels with a centre bore of 56.6mm, most wheels come with a slightly bigger centre hole, and thus need the rings to locate them properly - so they run round, not oval!

Secondly, the offset is a maximum of 38mm, so there will be an overall increase in the 'track' of the car (width between tyres) of 44mm - this will improve the look of the car by filling out the wheelarches a bit, but *may* have a negative effect on the handling - probably not noticable for 90% of the drivers 95% of the time - but if you drive on track, on the limit, you may notice it. (You won't notice it driving to Tescos, or out for a nice drive in the sunshine)
Dave

Just the one now, but this one's mine! - and it will be finished eventually..... - but also temporary custodian of a project until it is finished enough for Angie to drive it

...oh, and a 2006 Freelander destined for the jungles of The Gambia - 4500 miles across roads, desert and tracks - what could possibly go wrong?

Improve the look of the car? Of what importance is that? The Lotus engineers, even without the Chunky influence were surely a bit ahead of this sort of nonsense. Driving to Tesco is actually important. They were clever enough to engineer our favourite car to go to Tesco comfortably and at the same time handle better than any other fwd car. The 60mm offset seems to me to have been a significant part of the equation.

1) 'Looks' are important to some owners moreso than others.
2) If (1) applies, then it isn't 'nonsense'.
3) Asda is more important for me.
4) I'm not sure that it handles better than ANY other FWD car (certainly better than MOST - either contemporary or more recent)
5) Of course the 60mm is significant - it's the only number which would have given the optimum scrub radius for the entire suspension geometry, within the confines of legality and style.

...but I stand by my comments as posted - some owners don't care too much about the performance, and styling is more their thing..... each to their own.

:drunk: always adjusts my own ability to type my exact thoughts appropriately too!

No harm done (but personally I agree with your thoughts that function should always trump looks).
