So ESM could develop a program to calculate acceleration times and BHP
I'm 99.9% sure the speedo itself gets it's signal, or is it input

direct from the cable.

I suspect it's for increasing the engine speed when the PAS is working hard at low speed - there is a flag recorded in ES logs for "Steering Load Normal".

The speedo is purely mechanical.

We also know the idle RPM (or tickover, for you RHD types) tends to stay high when the engine isn't up to normal operating temp, and the car is moving. There was some discussion of this on another thread, but no consensus as to why this occurs. Clearly, the signal from the VSS to the ECU is involved in this. (For those not familiar, watch to see if your car goes to an idle of about 1500 RPM or so (when cold) when you push the clutch in and release the accelerator as you approach a stop, then when you get to a complete stop it drops to the normal 950.)

Sorry about that 9 mm is correct. I agree when you drive normally you wouldn't spot the difference, I still won't do it though.
As for the speed sensor thing I don't know but my VSS isn't working at the moment and ECU does everything quite well; other than when you're going downhill and engine is in decompression.
Will be more careful next time

A 9mm change in ride height is almost exactly the same as the difference between worn tires and new tires. I can't imagine that would be such a big deal. (Pirelli p-zero's have 11/32 tread depth on a new tire=9mm.) Again, I'm not making a recommendation, just an observation.

I kinda like my tires when they are new.
