Phil, if you read the snipet from Lotus in my previous post, the advice is NOT to put grease on either the threads OR seats of the wheel bolt.

Yes I read it, it also says don't put Feds on and the says put Feds on! My lotus trained mechanic does put copper grease on the seats and in the centre of the wheel where it meets the hub. But if my mum is to be listened to "if in doubt do without"

As a final end to this on my return from a trip I weighed a Fed 16in with new tyre against the S2 with worn tyre and found both nearly identical at 17.9 / 17.8 Kg respectivley.
After much debate I have fitted the Feds to my Elan so will be selling the S2's probably in February.

Ah, one of the great car forum debates. For the record I always give the threads a good wipe with an oily rag to make sure they're clean. I then put a tiny bit of copper grease on the end of the bolt. Having had one stick on a car in the past I didn't want that happening again.

Nice to know that the fed wheels are a straight swap as I fancy some of those for mine and there are usually some for sale at Donny with tyres for the price of a set of tyres. My SE wheels need a refurb anyway so.....

The car I've just bought has S2 wheels. Chap said they cost $3000 to buy & have shipped over. The four Fed wheels came with the deal too!
