For M100: Advice sought on tire profile

For state inspection, looks like a year for new tires. Current running what previous owner provided, Yokohama Avids on mag rims in a rather strange size: 205/60R16. I don't push the car, or in fact drive it all that much. Still, any reason to deviate from factory size. Inclined toward Toyo R1Rs in original profile, 205/45R16.

Any thoughts or prejudices?

He may have been trying to make the speedometer read closer to right. Mine has
always been at least 10mph high the taller tire would help.

I have been tempted to bring the M100 to my house in Queen Village, but no protected parking. Also I always seem to be hauling tools, appliances, etc. The one time I loaded a pressure washer in the Lotus, it cost me $600 for a sidewindow.

I would think the 60 series might soften the ride a bit. It's over 1" taller, too, so your car is definitely sitting higher than it should. I would go with the original profile. I just installed a set of Kumho Ecsta XS 215/45-16. The extra width does not cause any issues and grip is phenomenal. There also seems to be a much better selection of tires in the 215/45 size than the original 205. I rarely drive in rain, so dry performance was my goal. For a tire that's only about $100 a corner, the Kumho XS a great choice.

I am leery of the Kumho Ecsta XS wet performance. I still recall looking on as oncoming tractor-trailers jogged left and right around me, after my Triumph TR3 180ed on U.S. 22 in New Jersey. One tire hit a puddle. Classic 1964 Michelin-X performance.

Bought my M100 from a fellow on Coronado Island. It was his spare. That you?

Nope, not me. I am a bit north of Coronado in Del Mar. Smaug is the M100 who lives in my garage. Look us up if you're ever back in the area.
