Buckled 15" wheels :-(

Postby Rob P » Wed 26.06.2013, 15:14

After switching the front and rear wheels over to spread the tyre wear I've found that the ride is very different and at speeds above 55 MPH there was a certain amount of wheel vibration coming through. Thought it might be a wheel balance issue but have had the wheels checked and looks like I have a couple of Buckled wheels :(

I know there wasn't any issue with these on the rear and the wheels currently on the Rear on the front, so a quick reversal is planned for tonight, however, i was wondering if anyone had ever had a similar issue and managed to get buckled wheels repaired successfully?

I Don't want to switch from stock wheels due to the problems of finding the right offset on a wheel that looks good on the car, therefore any thoughts from people who have had similar issues would be appreciated. In fact any feedback is good

I do currently own a Mini JCW with 17" wheels that have a fair offset, these should clear the Hi Spec brakes I have and I might try a quick look see with one wheel tonight, however I wasn't sure if the Mini Wheels would fit the Elan Hub without a slight modification, I notice a few people with Mini S Spokes at Donington so any advice on those would also be useful

Thanks

MINI is 56.1mm bore as opposed to 56.5mm, so they need machining out.

Cheers Tim, have swapped the front and rears back and will take it out for spin and see how it goes, might end up taking you up on that offer if that is OK
