Starter Motor

Postby Specky » Fri 25.09.2009, 17:59

As you've guessed it, these are by no means bespoke to the Elan.

To my knowledge there's two styles of starter fitted.

They both have the lotus part Number A100E6028S.

They are both DENSO starter motors.

They are both ISUZU items.

the one that's fitted is most probably:-

A100E6028S LOTUS
128000-4571 ISUZU
8944410871 DENSO

If you were to get one from Lotus today A100E6028S

A100E6028S LOTUS
128000-0711 ISUZU
8970653150 DENSO

There are subtle differences, but for all intense and purposes the same.

From Precision Parts Catalog:

First one - ISS232 cross reference and model reference.
Second one -: ISS240 cross reference and model reference.
Isuzu Impulse RS list.

Who's going to check them out and update the Wiki?

Acording to Gold Autoparts of Dallas (selling re-conditioned one for $32) the second one is equivalent to:

Nice one Geoff...

I've found one on Ebay as well....

Clicky

I just had to double check the older style and the new were identical.... and they're not an exact match...

Lets hope the later version from Lotus works fine, or I've just sold my only starter motor...

It's highly likely that the starter motor is fine and it's the solenoid/contact that is the problem. Found this on e-bay:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/LOTUS-ELAN-1-6-M1 ... 439eefd838

or check out www.repairkitsuk.com

Might save you some money.
