Don,
the rubber lip material turned up today - not bad service.

It looks identical to what's on my car (see photos), and the cost was a very reasonable £22.25 including postage and VAT (for two - I bought a spare). The reference number for the rubber moulding is A4022 (2.1 metres in length).

A possible explanation for them telling you that they could not supply the part you asked for is that you quoted part no A2341dc17; this is a part they supply to Lotus. When I 'phoned and quoted the A2341 part number, the guy I talked to said that as this was a Lotus part he could not supply me with it (as I was not Lotus), however part no A4022 was "similar" ;-) .

Looks good to me.

John

PS: in one of the 'photos you can just make out the end of the "side plate" which is used in fitting the rubber lip.

Thank you John for this detailed information. Got send them a second mail.

so I´m curios whether I could get them too.

I have looked for the plates by our cars.... they haven´t any in the partslist although there were a rubber lip ....

If someone has a picture of the underground in this area, it would be very nice.

Kind Regards

Hi

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you. As stated in our previous e-mail, we are no longer able to supply these parts. We do not know where John W from Aberdeen purchased his spares but it was not from us.

as John W. from Aberdeen has got delivered them last week.

Could you be so kind, to check the availability of 2 one of it?

Thank very much in advance.

Kind regards

Please tell me, what I should do next. I hvae no further idea anymore... :smt022

Front Dam-Rubber Lip

Postby algirdas » Fri 05.05.2006, 15:50

Dear Don:

I called Walker Rubber today and spoke to a gentleman named Duncan. I explained to him the problem and gave him your name (Don Hasi) and your e-mail address. He assured me that A4022 is still available and that he was going to go over and straighten things out with Glenys.

I suggest that you e-mail Glenys back and ask her to visit with Duncan about this if she has any questions or call and talk to Duncan directly. If need be, reference the telephone conversation Duncan had with Al Liepas from Fort Collins, Colorado.

I hope this helps.

Sincerely,

Algirdas

GREAT THANK YOU, Algirdas

I have got a third reply from Glenys with the notice that it is the truth, that the rubber lip still will be produced on the other article number and she is sorry about the confusion etc.

So I will now do a quick order :-D

Thank you all. Algirdas: You have a great credit on my side  Please feel free to use it, where I am able to help you too

Sincerely Don

Ah... the direct approach. Good thinking Al, you are a gentleman. Well done for sorting things out for Don.

Don,
If things still don't work out this way, let me know and I'll send you the spare one I ordered for myself.

I can't photograph the plates which clamp on the rubber lip at the moment because I'm doing brake work on my car this weekend. However they are simply narrow thin black plastic plates which are curved to the shape of the front bumper and which are used to spread the load of the bolts which attach the rubber lip. I don't think they are necessary and am sure you could simply use large washers instead.

front Dam-Rubber Lip

Postby algirdas » Sun 07.05.2006, 08:50

Dear Don:

I took some pictures of my plastic plates this weekend and will try to get them posted later Sunday. I'll be putting my spolier lip on in a few days and will provide a write up of "how I did it". I have some interesting challenges in that some of the rectangular holes have been torn out and I do not wish to drill holes into my bumper cap.

Sincerely,

Algirdas

front Dam-Rubber Lip

Postby algirdas » Mon 08.05.2006, 18:46

Dear Don:

I have e-mailed you photographs of the three plates. I can't seem to shrink the files sizes down small enough to fit ont he web-site. They really are nothing more than three relatively flimsy pieces of black plastic. In fact, the more I looked at them, the angrier I became at how much they cost. I plan on making patterns out of steel for them. That way I can reproduce them in plastic from the patterns should the need arise.

I will probably be putting this all together in the next few weeks and I hope to do a write-up with pictures for the club members. I have some issues that need to be addressed in that I have several of the rectangular holes are torn out and a simple J-clamp (aka speed nut) won't really work there. I think I have a solution that is relatively simple and does not involve drilling holes into the bumper cap.

Sincerely,

Algirdas

i just fitted mine today, i used 4x fastners ans self tappers (2 at each end) and the rest i used a load of nuts and bolts from B&Q (uk hardware store) total cost about 16 quid (inc the rubber) plus about an hour of my time. Where the holes had been ripped out of the body's lip i just redrilled a 5mm hole and slotted another bolt in.

easy job really i thought

mick
now i have one, i just want to keep tinkering with it!!!!!!!

Managed to get mine removed today. Had tried soaking with WD40 but to no avail (only 2 screws shifted). Tried angle grinder on first one and took the head right off. So far so good. With the next, I decided to grind a flat edge on the screw head. I then got hold of it with pliers and it moved :D . Happy days. Tried it with the next, just the same, yippee. One minor downside is that although the heat breaks the rust adhesion, the plastic "washer/load spreader" thingy melts slightly but it is not destroyed.
Next to get replacement stainless j nuts, screws and washers.

Is the same part used on both UK and Fed Elans? I had a look underneath and there's no rubber lip on my new baby. One more thing to do... :D

Received yesterday. Excellent stuff and superfast delivery. Just one question, what location do the 4 smaller j nuts fit into? Mine were so badly rusted, I didn't notice a size difference and the Parts Manual is unclear (unless I've missed more info somewhere).
Thanks

SJ list this item. I believe it's not the original lotus part - maybe they're just reselling? Price is almost identical and may save postage if you're ordering other parts from SJ anyway. Part number is SJ100B0011.

Looking to order the rubber air dam from Walker Rubber in a few days. They quoted me the following:

Spoiler (new part no. A4022) £7.37

Postage/packaging for one spoiler £7.00
Postage/packaging for two spoilers £12.00
Postage/packaging for three spoilers £16.50

There's a little savings on shipping for a multi-unit order, but not enough if additional shipping to the final purchaser is required.

I'm in Northern Virginia near Tysons Corner. Let me know if you wish me to order one that you pickup.
