1st and 2nd gear sticking while clutch depressed

Right managed to reassemble the car after replacing the clutch, I have an issue now that when 1st or 2nd gear is selected and the clutch is pressed down the car will not roll back down a hill as it seems a gear is still selected. Tried this in 3/4/5 and all seems to be ok.
I have read the manual regarding the gearshift cable adjustment but i cant seem to correct the 1st and 2nd gear selection issues, unless im doing something wrong (more than likely)

Dont really understand step 2 in the manual either, how can I tell if im in the 3rd/4th gear plane?
Can someone advise in laymans terms how to setup the gearchange cables as I think this is the issue.

It does help if you ajust the clutch cable properly!! All working ok now and back on the road
