AXLE DAMAGED

Postby Crocogator 31 » Mon 26.01.2009, 23:00

According to my mechanic, my front axle is "shot" and needs to be replaced, but he can't locate one. Does anyone know if/where there is a replacement available? Is one available from Isuzu?

Gil

I don't think the isuzu driveshafts will fit. I am sure they are lotus specific. Is it the drives side or passeger side that is "shot". Is it the complete drive shaft that is shot or just the cv joints or stub axels?

Think the drive shafts may have been on the Lotus stock clearance sale.

They should still be available from the 60th Anniversary list: C100R0001F = L/H and C100R0002F = R/H, both for 93.61GBP.

OOOPS. My bad. It is the driver's side steering gear. A picture is attached. The replacement we ordered apparently has teeth that are too big.

Sorry for any confusion.

Is that an Isuzu driveshaft then?

Yes, that's the driveshaft. But saying "driver's side" doesn't help much when we don't know what country you're in!

Edit: I found your "hello from Virginia" post - you might want to put Virginia in your profile to save people having to ask in future.

So it's the LHS one then - C100R0001F as Geoff said. It's not got very much to do with steering though! ;-)

Oh, and if you're ordering one, you should order a driveshaft to gearbox oil seal - it's best to put a new one in on that side when doing the job, to save you from having to do it twice (don't ask how I know  ). You might as well change your gearbox oil too, because you're definitely going to lose some anyway.

An early example of project creep!!! :-D
