Not really a cry for help and my apologies if this is in the wrong place, I would like to know what gearbox we use in the Elan is it Elan specific or a multi used one?

this is completely off th top of my head so firgive the errors--but something to help your research
tranny = GM/Isuzu 76mm, (tranny model "MR8"?)

if it is for the reason yours is on its way out then...
i have a spare "used"gearbox with a notchy 3rd if you wish to use it whilst you get yours rebuilt....
i do want it back ,but if it can assist you in any way then let me know..

Jim Clark S2 - 1/12. The one with the Yellow spoke wheels . No 613 on dash (pushed in to factory in wrong order 615 on tub)
