Verified mileage with many old MoTs and receipts
I’ve owned the car since May 2015, and there were three previous verified owners from new.
Comprehensive service history with original sales invoice from Storm of Leicester Lotus dated 1st April 1995. Original Elan S2 owners handbook with service history included. Lotus Cars Heritage certificate dated 23rd March 1995.
The car’s in excellent original condition, with period modifications that were all designed to be reversible, including heated seats; additional footwell lighting; fan override switch; replacement alarm with central locking and window close; electric boot, fuel flap and tonneau releases; hidden remote parking sensors to front and rear.
Mechanical updates include: “John Callahan” replacement gear cables and short shift kit; original LEC group buy rear hub conversion to allow the use of separate rear discs; “Jamie from Fife” one-piece windscreen seal.
Always serviced at least yearly during my ownership; last cambelt change in May 2025 at 68,024 miles. New windscreen in July 2024.
Hood in excellent condition and regularly treated with Fabsil. Clear rear window.
Bodywork nice and shiny with good panel fits. It’s the original paint, with some paint chips as would be expected on a 31 year old car, most notably ahead of the rear wheels. I considered a respray, but “it’s only original once!” Front mudflaps fitted to minimise damage to the sills.
Original toolkit and space saver wheel/tyre in the boot.
Major work carried out during my ownership:
- • Chassis derust and repaint
• Full suspension and brake rebuild with all new wearing parts, powder coating where appropriate
• Original S2 BBS wheels refurbished and now fitted with Avon ZV7 tyres; good tread all round. (I have a spare refurbished BBS wheel without a tyre available by separate negotiation)
• New oil cooler and hoses; new Coolex aluminium radiator and fans
• Full drivetrain overhaul including head and head gasket, clutch, all cables and hoses, sensors, injectors
• Overhauled driveshafts and new wheel bearings
• Overhauled starter and alternator
• Refurbished headlamps and motors with upgraded bulbs
• LED bulbs in all lights except flashers and headlamps
• New speakers throughout, with Alpine FM/DAB CD player, including Bluetooth audio/phone connection. (OEM Clarion head unit available by separate negotiation)
• Window mechanisms both overhauled using new parts where necessary
• Carpets removed and cleaned; original underfelt replaced with high density waterproof alternative. Floor and jacking points checked at same time; minor surface rust treated and protected with Dinitrol
The car was serviced and MoTd at the end of April by its usual garage (ex Formula 5000 race engineer). There’s a summary of the service history since Day 1 in the photos, and the car will come with two folders: one containing all receipts and MoTs, and the other listing the modifications and associated wiring.
This is a really straight, well sorted S2 Elan M100, which has wanted for nothing during my ownership. All the fun and road manners of the original car, with selected mods which make it more practical, easier to live with, and enhance the driving experience. Use it and enjoy it as it is, or put everything back to standard and enjoy a totally original car.
