Its very shiney and very red and claims to have had a new ground up restoration. It will greatly appeal to the vast majority of the less mechanically able/knowledgeable punters. I remember buying a very shiney, very red MG Midget in my youth and quickly became aware that red and shiney were probably not the most important attributes...but I'd bought it by then.

The seats are definitely "Benky Boy" seats but all the other garish red and aluminium seems to have gone, save for the gaitor, door cards etc...

I'm sure JB's no 1 fan there's only on f in Geof Smith, will shed further light on it

It looks typical of the two Calypso SE's that i viewed before i settled on a custard colour. Lovely and shiny from 10 yards but things start to go a bit awry the closer you get. It looks to have had a blow over to me with a few areas of overspray evident. There are quite a few 'tired' trim pieces that dont present it in the best light, but i suppose typical of the mileage. I really dont see it being anywhere near the estimate and wouldnt expect that it will get near to five figures. Nice enough for a fettler but needs to be at the cheaper end i reckon.
Reminds me well of the first car i looked at. The price went down from £8.5K to £6K without me even mentioning money. The seller claimed he had fully rebuilt the suspension whilst also telling me that the non self cancelling indictors were meant to be like that... Then i noticed the separate horn button on one of the blank switches due to him trying to fix the steering wheel button but failing.... I could go on!

I reckon the sub 3 grand 'reasonable' projects are gone now Joao, unless you're very lucky, needs to be a serious basket case to be under that money these days I think.

I think you are correct - certainly if you want a car that still has lights at the back!

I know what Simon P sold his Steel Blue project for (without rear lights) and that was probably the last 'bargain' which I have seen....

.... when the yellow 'basket case' car (subject of a different thread) had a highest bid of £2K, it is hard to imagine many more sub-£3K cars being out there. I know that the highest bid doesn't necessarily mean that it actually sold for that amount, but I only know what I know, and won't make questionable comments based on guesswork (who said anything about shill bidding??? - I just watch the bid history and here we are!!!!!).

I really don't know, Mark - it is a bit telling when none of the "regular" breakers even have a punt, and I don't know who any of the bidders were (I know roughly how many feedback scores most of our guys have, so it is easy to equate the bidder to a known name that way).

It was apparent that the owner paid well over the odds for it, and wanted to get back as much as possible, but I would be rejecting the car when I went to collect it unless I could hear it running (as it was sold as a runner)..... I wouldn't be surprised to see it for sale again at some stage (which is why I've left the original thread published, despite the OP's attitude, to hopefully, assist anyone interested in the car who does a Google search and finds it.)

It would be nice to meet up with a fellow north westerner if it stayed local.

I have not seen the car and do not know it......but..... I do know Guy Munday, and he has an excellent reputation, and only deals in "good" examples of his cars. There isn't much that he doesn't know about most Lotus cars, and is a nice guy (pun intentional).
