well i can safely say that I would if i had the cash......
car was a good sound example.......MBC and dump valve fitted......no stereo.....roof ok appart from elastics and rear screen.....generally seals were on their way out but they wernt too bad....Ive seen worse......
external window to door trim (top of the door...bottom of the window) were cracked and lookin a bit worse for wear......
gear lever gaitor needs replacing......electric window switch worked in the horizontal but not the vertical plane.......passenger window guides need doing...its getting stuck on the way up but doesnt feel like its fallen off just yet.......
boot carpet damp....but he said hed blown the washer bottle back though to get rid of a blockage......
the miles look genuine....he says hes done the hpi etc and its clean.....
wheel rims have been refurbed (not sure on the colour...looks like battleship grey rather than a metalic) tyre too look cheap n nastyish.........
other than all this.......it was a good straight honest car

Hi, just spotted an S2 for Sale on Pistonheads Red S2 it is No 238 - Reg M356 FYJ, just wondered if anybody knows anything about the car. Looking at the photo of the front end there seems to be a gap between the top of the bumper and what I assume is the bottom of the clam. I've noticed this on a couple of cars in the past (to varying degrees) - is this anything to be concerned about ?

I'm no expert... but the car looks fine to me from the photos... Elans are hand built... fibreglass is known to shrink... there are many reasons for the differences... including parking bumps, I guess but you'd need to go see the car and ask the owner..

It's nothing to worry about, the bumper can be easily moved/adjusted, mine wasn't quiet where it should be when I bought it
I just waited to find a reason to remove it then put back in the right place.

No. It should come on when the ignition gets switched on, then go off after a few seconds.
If it stays on while idling, it is reporting a fault. You should be able to get the fault code with a paperclip

I went to see this Silver SE in Marlow yesterday:

All looked very good, but then I drove it and the turbo didn't seem right (granted this is only the second Elan I've driven, so I don't really know what they should be like). I could hear lots of air whooshing but there wasn't a corresponding acceleration until I'd been driving for a while, and the boost gauge was on zero nearly all the time only occassionally flipping up to 5 when at high revs then dropping back down to zero again. I've read on the forum that the boost gauge could just have a bad earth, but does the turbo sound right? Do they dump charge until they're up to temperature, or only really boost when in higher gears? (I could only just get into 3rd because the car didn't tax and I was trying it on a short stretch of single lane road)

Can anyone offer any info on these 2? they seem to appear for sale at about the same time both with only 8.5K miles??

With such low mileage, unless you wanted one as a museum exhibit I'd expect an awful lot of gremlins to appear when you started trying to put miles on them.

Also, how can anyone in the UK claim to have not ever driven their car in the rain? It rains on & off all the time, even with a blue sky
Apart from LEC events, I'll usually choose to leave my Elan at home if I think it will rain..& I get caught out quite often.

If I was thinking of buying either of these Elans, which I wouldn't be, I think firstly I would factor in buying a complete set of new tyres.

Why both adverts have made a plus "feature" of their 20 year(ish) old tyres is completely beyond me.

Sorry Billy that may have been my fault...

If you were driving steady on small roads you may find that the turbo will not spool up at all and boost gauge wil read 0. Although this would not explain the whooshing noise. possibly an air leak?? I looked at the pics on autotrader and couldn't see any apparent mods (other than possibly an alarm)? No blow off valve etc that could explain the noise.

If you plant your foot on the floor you should see the gauge rise to about .5 - .6 bar (or more if car has been modified) depending on boost gauge accuracy and then boost will decay as car accelerates.... well, this is what happens in my car but I'm not one of the experts that inkitin mentioned

Also the ECM will limit boost slightly untill car is warm to what max boost I do not remember.

From the pics all looks fine to me. possibly a aftermarket radio, antenna and some wierd lumps stuck to the door inner panels... probably extra speakers / large tweeters?? Other than that I do not see anything unusual in the pics.

Try posting your question in a different catagory ie: problems need help or " Turbos, intake & boost" Maybe you will get a better response from the technical members who look at these posts more than here.
