You could say that was a depressing result for the seller. On the other hand, an excellent result for the buyer.

Correct. But I'd say that for 98% on this forum, it's depressing. I remember talk in recent years of owners that were saying the M100 was definitely going to be a $100K car very soon. So it's extra depressing for those people when a decent example sells so low in a very large and very public auction.

Wow. I'm in LA and I'm looking for one. I had no idea this was up for auction or I would've bid. The new dealer is flipping it for over double what they bought it for: https://phoenix.craigslist.org/nph/ctd/ ... 80787.html

Given the look of the engine bay and interior, I think this was fair. Maybe a bit on the low side for the mileage, but still in range.

If it had been cleaner, with factory rims, I could've seen it breaking $10 K.

Maybe the auctioneer had an off day? Or the audience didn't have any fans? Auctions are funny, I don't think they have the same consistency as individual sales, for tracking prices, and trends.

Also, I love love love my Lotus, but we're a decade or two (or more) away from these being six figure vehicles - just my two cents. 8)

I would guess that dealer would be willing to take an offer lower than his asking price.

Over here the very best, low mileage ones are commanding £16-18k. That's $22-25k in Monopoly money. A far cry from $100k

But, like art, never ever buy a car as an investment. Buy it because you want it and enjoy driving it

It is still the best "bang for buck" you can buy :burnout:

PS if it makes money long term, then it's an added bonus

Mecum is mostly about muscle cars so I’m not surprised it didn’t get higher. It looked an OK car so probably could fetch $12 k or so. Not sure what happened with the original wheels as that would help.

Given the Elise prices have just shot up $10k in a few months, maybe this is next?
