And the indicator/sidelights are not as per the norm (but the same as mine :-D

...yes, the paint is missing as it was hit... I told this car was not well maintained...

Instead, this other S2 in calipso red looks very nice and it is certainly a very late specimen as it was registered in 1996; but I haven't seen it yet as it is located in northern Italy; and the price they ask for is quite high... :shock:

On a positive note, that looks like Pacific Blue to me. Nice colour. :-D

I didn't know they made S2s in Pacific Blue; the nearest S2 colour being the slightly darker Azure Blue.

Red one - front bumper, drivers side, below headlight looks out of alignment (or could be a shadow?)
- is there a front spoiler rubber lip fitted?

Mark's correct.

The clamshell appears to overhang the bumper too far especially at the nearest corner to the camera. Check the prongerons and swan necks.
There's no rubber dam strip fitted.

...thank you for confirming what I also had noticed on that unaligned front bumper... Overall it is not so easy to find a "clean" car; of course it is normal that a 12-15 years old "warrior" has a long "story of battles" in his curriculum. An immaculate specimen must be very rare...

Joe,
You're right of course. What matters is being able to recognise the scars and make a judgement on what the car is worth in the full knowledge of what state it is in.

So if some of the posts in reply to you are in the negative (pointing out faults or things to check), please don't get down-hearted. People are only trying to help by making sure you can make your choice having been informed of what to look out for.

Are you going to go to see either of these cars, or ask more questions first?

the posts I read in response to mine were absolutely welcome and very useful to open my mind to the "indicators" of car health and level of care by previous owners. For instance, now I am particularly "tuned" to the meaning of presence of the rubber lip under the bumper, and other critical checks that I read in the "Elan Buying Help" forum (reading the following post is great http://lotuselancentral.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=7207).
Now I tracked another 1991 SE in northern Italy that looks fine, although mileage is 94000 km. Naturally, it is not a high priority in my agenda, but will consider getting out of the Roman area for "my" Elan search.
