Hi everyone! I'm thinking about getting myself an Elan as I've always wanted a Lotus and the insurance companies have just about stopped laughing when I phone up asking for a quote on one now, so the time seems right. I currently drive a Toyota MR2 Roadster which is reasonably competent but doesn't really excite me, it doesn't have enough character for me. Before that I had a Suzuki Cappuccino which was a fantastic little car, the screaming revvy little engine, exploitable handling and slightly-flimsy early '90s build quality made it so much fun to drive.
The thing is, I've never actually even seen an Elan up close, let alone sat in or driven one. Are there any members around the Manchester area who would be kind enough to let me pop by and have a look around their car and see what's what? If you'd be willing to take me out for a quick spin that would be even better

That looks like a stunning example, Gary, I've seen it in Octane before. It's a grand or two more than I'm looking to pay (worth every penny for the condition it's in though) and unfortunately is the wrong colour

Best of luck with the sale.

Welcome to the Elan world, i`m in Oldham and your welcome to a passanger ride but my Elan isn`t exactly standard. This is a great forum with a wealth of information, if your after more of a local meets, runs etc then it`s also worth joining
http://norlog.org.uk/ although it is mainly Elise/Exiges.

Thanks very much Monty, I'll take you up on that offer! YHPM.
I've been lurking for a few days and like you said, this place looks like a great source of knowledge. I've met a few of the Norlog guys before on PistonHeads meets; I actually had a brief run in the MR2 with a gaggle of Elises and an Elan round the Trough of Bowland last year, he could've been a member on here, I didn't get a chance to talk to him.

Hi Jaik
As a contrast to Monty's Elan, I have a pretty much stock example sitting in Hazel Grove. If you want to have a look and a passenger ride some time, as a comparison with Monty's, just PM or e-mail me and we'll see if we can arrange a mutually convenient date/time.
