Lotus Elan Central

Hi , I have just completed a restoration of a lotus Elan Turbo that has spent its life down in Singapore ,and was exported back to the Uk when its COE (Certificate of Entitlement ) expired in 2005 and has been off the road since being re-imported , being a export to Singapore the car has no heater fitted ( not sure what is missing in the heater department) The car now enjoys a full respray and a refit of all the bits that came unglued due to the excessive heat in Sing. I am just going through the process of finding all the import documents so that it may have a UK aged related plate. It has just enjoyed a full respray in Dark British Racing Green.

Looks good. Judging from the opera lights, it is one of the early ones so may have had a perspex reg plate cover (definitely would have done if it was a UK build).
No heater? You appear to have a temperature regulator on the facia. Is it possible that the matrix is simply blocked through disuse?

I got my elan (bgr) done at k.p.andersons in hartlepool ( i have photos). they did a first classs job. would defo say go to them.

Just received back from Customs and excise all the paperwork to get UK registration -I must say that they were very helpfull considering the limited info I had

Its not a professional respray -I unbolted all the major panels and sprayed them in my back garden inside a tent with 2k Jaguar Dark British Racing Green paint from CARS of Canvey Island Essex (just don't breath the fumes or overspray)-great people and helpful to the DIY er. cost about £120 in paint and materials -Preparation is all -final rubbing down with 1500 then 2000 wet and dry with final cut and Polish with G10.

Also home done wheels look really good!
Home Refurbisnment ,by rubbing down with 800 grit ,sprayed with high build 2K etch primer ,then base coat Matt Silver ,then 2K clear coat with matting agent to give low level gloss ,and finaly Lotus engraving painted with Paint Pen , wheel centre badges from ebay

The Singapore Sling is now fully MOT'd and with a UK registration No H 913 PVW
Throughout the whole process everybody has been very helpful from Customs and Excise -the MOT man -to the DVLA

Just saw this thread. Welcome to LEC Ian! My car came from Singapore too. On mine the main water hoses to and from the heater have been blocked off (somewhat unprofessionally - i.e. I'm sure it wasn't delivered that way!) but the system itself appears to be intact.

Interesting that yours has the standard European rear end. My car apparently came from bizzaro world as I've got a "Stage 2" body with a Euro-type front and rear bumper. (See here.) I thought all "far-eastern" spec cars were delivered like that but I guess not! I've yet to see another one that way.

Mine has the heater flow and return pipes from the heat radiator capped where they protrude through the bulkhead and the electric pump blocked off. I think it was done at the factory as they are capped off with proper sealing caps and clips.
