New Elan M100 S2 Owner Netherlands

I recently became the proud owner of a Lotus Elan M100 S2. I say recent it was back in May, but I've been having far too much fun driving in the fantastic weather of the last couple of months to find the time to post this announcement on LEC. Whgn I find another dull day I will look to add some pics....

In the meantime many thanks to everyone who contributed to the buyers guide. As a Elan newbie I found this very useful.

I will be at the Lotus Festival at Brands Hatch in August, and hope to make a number of contacts. Is there anything special being organised by LEC?

Gazza keeps a database of known S2s. I am sure hu e will be interested to hear more details about yours.

I am not aware of an LEC stand or anything at Brands but several members will be there including some who are camping. The camping lot are friendly even when they are hung over!

Welcome. It is always a pleasure to see overseas enthusiasts here, and I have always found the Dutch to be car obsessed. I am sure that you are another in that happy band of obsessives.

One thing that puzzles me about Holland. Why are there so many car nuts there when all of your roads are so terrible? Speeds seem to be limited to a crawl everywhere, with speed humps every few yards. Do you cross over into Germany to enable you to get into third gear?

The roads are terrific actually!

Road quality is excellent, no potholes like in Belgium, signs are good. Nope, all in all the roads are pretty good, in the top 10 of the world.

I have to admit to being a Dutch import, (just like the S2, although it is LHD and on Dutch plates for a number of years). No problem in corresponding in Dutch, although my written Dutch is terrible, as you will see from the following reply.

In woon in Drenthe, vlakbij the Duitse grens. Ik was bij de Britse auto jumble in Waalwijk een paar week geleden, dus mischien hebben we daar ontmoeten?

As for the roads in the Netherlands I have to say they're pretty good, and recently the Dutch government saw sense to raise the speed limits to 130 km/h in places.

That said, I'm still looking forward to getting back to the UK, and testing the car out in some of the twisty/hilly areas.

You are the experts, of course. My narrow experience is of a summer holiday at Zandvoort about 4 years ago, and I can't recall reaching 50 MPH anywhere other than the motorway.

Congratulations on your choice of car.
I bought my Elan S2 in July this year. They are great driver's cars!
