Hi,

Having owned a number of Lotuses the past few years ( Elise, Exige and currently an Evora) I am considering an Elan. I'll have great fun trawling the forum and hope to post pictures of the car when I find one.

Cheers
Alastair

Hi & welcome.
There are usually a few for sale on here, many of which are known to other members so hopefully less risky than one from elsewhere.
There are also lots of current owners to ask questions about any issues you may see on ones you are looking at.

There is an S2 register, held by a forum member, You could perhaps check with him who owned the car and if he has more info

Welcome Alastair.
So, what sort of Elan are you looking for? Good, average, restoration project? SE/S2 bias, or not fussed?
Any colour preferences, and how far are you willing to travel to find the right one for you?

I'm looking for a good condition s2 or se preferably in NMY. Happy to travel for the right one. The one at Bell and Colville looked ideal but looks like I may have missed that one. Going to see Gazza's s2 when he gets back as that looks like a real beauty.

I don't think I know Trig's, but Gazza's is indeed a real beauty.

I can finally reveal that I / my better half ended up buying Gazza's S2.

She is rather chuffed with the Elan even though we have had a couple of teething issues, but hey, it's a 20 year old car.

Even after she was stranded on the M11 with coolant spraying all over the place she still loves it.

Hope to contribute as best we can.

Cheers

Alastair/George

You never said! What happened? Really sorry to hear this, you know I spent thousands this year getting her ready for sale as this is the last thing I wanted to happen.

If it makes you feel any better, I picked up my Tamora last Saturday and had only done 50 mins of our 3hr drive home before the alternator belt snapped on the M4 and it took 7hrs to get home on a low loader

Hope she's all sorted now?

Hi Gary,

Coolant hose sprung a leak. The long Y shaped one from the heater to the pump I think. I am trying to get one quickly so George can get back on the road.

She also had the stalling issue you had back in September. We've had it in the garage but nothing is showing. No problems since though (other than the hose)

Sorry to hear about the Tamora, hope you got it foxed and back on the road quickly.

Cheers

Hi Alastair, mentioned the stalking to Andy at Rapid ( old site of the Essex) and like me, he was sure they had found the cause, split air hoses but obviously not. Glad you've ordered the hose so hopefully be on the road again soon.

As for the Tamora, well it's up and running after a new belt and battery but still not got her back after it needed a new door solenoid so I could shut the door, New micro switch so the window would drop when door is opened and now waiting for the alarm to be fixed and returned after the indicators wouldn't turn off. All because of a dead battery after alternator belt snapped. Reading the receipts I was given the belt was changed 6 months ago and only done 300 miles!!!
But any excuse I can find to go and see her at Rapid I do. Looks stunning but would be nice to drive her but looks like it's going to be at least a 2 week wait after picking her up.

Neither of us seem to be having much luck. Time for a new Fiesta?
